Bo closes practice to former players indefinitely

Lol I honestly can't believe people actually get so upset over something so stupid like WAHusker and Goal-line.
Ummm.....are you sure because...
I wasn't mad or irate, neither did or do I bash our players or coaches. This is an over rated analyst who I think is a complete toolbag. Huge differences here. I don't really think I have to spell it out for you, or do I? Disliking someone is a HUGE difference in getting mad because you don't know whats going on with someone else' team.

I'll tell you what would work as a solution: If Bo would have one of his staff work up a short video clip of each practice. They could even have one of the assistants provide some audio to go with it. The videos would not show anything that revealed a special defensive scheme or new offensive look. Instead just show clips of someone making a good block or a WR making a circus catch. It would give the local media something to write about without letting the cat out of the bag. In other words, Mike Nobler to the rescue!

Differences between Bo and Callahan

Bo:

Bringing back tradition

Bringing back and still creating All American Academics

Better winning record (71%)

3 Conference Championship games

Bowl appearance 5 years straight

Callahan:

Non traditionalist

Worse winning record 27-22 55%

2 years no bowl games

1 Conference Championship game

Ruined Nebraska football

I am sure I am missing a lot, but there is no comparison.

It's Bo's team. He can do what he wants. I don't have a problem with limiting media or former player access to practices. I do hope there are some legitimate reasons forthcoming about why this has apparently been extended/widened to include former players though. Pretty leery after the crap Cally pulled but am a lot more confident that Bo would only do this for very good reasons.

Too often the media and fans feel/act like they have a "right" to know everything that goes on in the program. We/they actually have no such right. There are tons of good and legitimate reasons to keep secret what could be viewed at a practice. But it's also a double edged sword. If you play it this way, you sure as hell better put a product on the field that is worthy of being kept under cover.
I do not know you so this is not a personal shot at you, but what you said here pretty much sums up the hypocrisy of a majority of the Nebraska fan base. And I think it is pretty disgusting how so many excuses are made for Bo when he does the same things that Callahan did.
The above comparison about Bo and Cally couldn't be any further from the truth.

Has Bo ever taken down an All-American photo that lined our halls?

Has Bo ever made his players set up appointments as to the exact times that they can and can't wonder into his office?

Has Bo ever one time (or his boss at one time) said something to former players to make them cancel their season tickets?

Bo has always not only invited, but has told (from one the ones I had the privilege to talk to for more than 2 hours) them that he "needs them" to come to practice so his players understand "where we've been."

I don't know why he's done this this time, but I would all but put money on it that he had a damn good reason for it.

Bo Pelini doesn't shun former players and he definitely doesn't shut them out of practice out of spite or "because he can."

I could literally care less if you believe me or not, but the above I know is true.

You couldn't have been more wrong.

Differences between Bo and Callahan on the sidelines:

Bo:

Ranting up and down sidelines with wild eyed visions of ripping the head off a referee and pooping down his neck hole.

Callahan:

Owl blinking into a clipboard as his first 10 scripted plays of the game fail miserably.

(between the two, I prefer Mad man Bo on the sidelines to ole Owl-eyes.)

You got banned from practice huh?

Closing practices is something most coaches do......
That's right. OU practice fields was harder to reach Ft Knot. 10 feet tall fence (electric fence?) and thick bushes surrounded by the entire practice fields. 2 or 3 security guys all the time, probably ex-linebackers and/or bouncers. Only one gate posted 24/7. Top secret.

Well said. I chose not to spell out some of the details because the comparison was so far off base I didn't feel it deserved it. But I am glad a few have pointed out the errors in that thinking.

If you remember... back in 2010... everyone thought Zack Lee would start since it would be his senior year and he had been the starter the year before. Everything had been kept very quiet in fall camp and the media had been restricted to a lot of it. It wasn't until the first game that we found out that Taylor was the starter... and no one really knew anything about him. No one had heard he was killing it in practice. No one knew of his speed. No one knew of his abilities... he had just been a redshirt freshman who played WR on scout team. I say this to say that History shows that when Bo closes practice and access to his team to the media, it's because he has something really good that he wants to capitalize on secretly. He doesn't close practice to hide that they suck... he closes practice to protect and hide something really good.

I really think that maybe this Defense is going to be pretty stinkin good by the end of the season. I think we'll see mistakes early on, and I think we'll see them really gel by mid season. Next year we will have a REALLY good defense and a decent offense.
Somebody on huskerboard let us know before the first game. I can't remember who? Maybe Paul, EZ-E or da skers. One of those three.

Plus, all the secrecy around it made it pretty obvious anyway. Bo said he was keeping it secret so things "wouldn't turn into a circus". Which would only happen if he named the Freshman the starter.

It's Bo's team.
Disagree. It's our team. Without us, he has no job. Without him, we'd have a different coach.
Without YOU, someone else's butt is in the seat....get over it, you (or me) is not that important as individuals. When "you" are part of a majority, your "side" has a say. Fortunately for NU, a majority of NU fans like Pelini and his overall handling of the team.
