Bo Pelini and the Write Off Season of 2012

It is strange that our schedule is considered that tough. The Big 10 is horrible this year in football, and I shudder to think what would have happened if we were in a league that had teams that could actually score the ball (i.e., Big 12).

But it has been great watching the team improve over the season, especially on defense. It's also great to have an offense that can actually score the freakin ball. After 2009 and 2010, I thought there was no hope to ever have an offense like this. It's been fun to watch, and has definitely brought us back in most of our conference games this year.
Honest question, you really think this?

Bo? That's what waits for you too. Nebraska football stands alone here. And the giants live forever. I think you've got it in you to achieve that level of accomplishment. Do it in Lincoln, Nebraska, coach. The well never runs dry here. And the greats never die, and they never, ever fade.
That's some quality prose right there.

+1

Nebula,

+1'd your OP with my 19 troll accounts. Well done.

The only time I thought Bo was going to be on the hot seat was when it looked like we were going to lose to Northwestern. . . again. For him to say "we need to win out", then the very next game lose to an outmatched Northwestern team, would have created a supershitstorm. At the very least, it would have caused Landomatic to crawl out from the woodwork. And reading his posts is something I wouldn't wish on zoogies my worst enemy.

The run these guys are on is quite impressive all things considered. A win Saturday means we will have won 6 in a row for the first time since 2001. Hell we've already won all our home games, which also hadn't happened since 2001. And for those of you keeping score, 2001 was the last time Nebraska was Nebraska.

We need a win this weekend. If Iowa pulled a Baylor on us, it might all be for naught. We're about due for one of those classic letdown games. Time to see if this team is truly turning the corner.

Huge game this weekend, perhaps the biggest of Pelini's time here, believe it or not.

The Big Ten is far from horrible. That's just the ESPN spin to prop up a down SEC and Horribly weak Big 12. The top 3-4 teams in the Big Ten would win the Big 12 this year.

Our Nonconference losses to Notre Dame, UCLA and Oregon State are nowhere near as bad as they were portrayed by ESPN at the beginning of the year.

The Big XII's only saving grace was the notion that Kansas State was legit - LOL

Ohio State is better than any team in the Big XII, and it's not even all that close. Nebraska and Michigan would also be right there at the top of that conference.

No way the Big Ten is worse than the Big XII

3 of the 4 losses to these teams were road games too. How many SEC teams played west of the Missouri river? None?

We were the best team in the conference in 09 by the end of the year no matter what anybody says, I mean hell we won that conference championship game, I dont care what the score board said. We did all that with an offense that was no where near as good as the one we have now is. plus the majority of the Big 12 teams like to air out the football which as we had seen in the past plays right into Bo's defense. I honestly think the BIG and the Big 12 are pretty much even, right there with the Pac 12 all tied for the second best conference in America. I still say the SEC is #1 until somebody else wins the MNC.

But anyways I think the OP's post is spot on. Going into the season I was worried our defense would get thrashed, but I also had hope that last season was a result of having to get ready for a team that we had never played before each week and that Bo would have his defense straightened up and know what to expect in our second season in the BIG

great post, nebula. it seems like the national perception of this season has suffered because our two losses were to really good teams before anyone knew how good they were. ucla still hurts because we should have beat them, but that was a solid team we played on the road.

The two losses bothered me, but Northwestern and Michigan State were more troubling in a way. We'd already had our wake up call, but couldn't come out fired up and error free and won by the skin of our teeth. Which is kinda cool, but kinda not, given how bad we looked digging ourselves huge holes in the first place.

Michigan, Penn State and Minnesota finally looked like progress to me.

We're rated exactly where we should be. Two more wins and we're in the Top 10.

Great post. It was easy to write this season off after UCLA game. The NW game made me think that the defense was turning things around. Hopefully we can get 2 or 3 more momentum wins to take into next season. GBR!!!
