Bo Pelini Dream Team

Taylor Martinez has never led the nation in turnovers.
fumbles - don't be picky - everyone, including the die-hard Taylor fans (and Taylor himself) knows that he turns the ball over too much.

I'm not being picky, I'm being committed to what's actually true. He's led the nation in fumbles - not in turnovers, and not in fumbles lost.

Fun fact - Taylor's fumbles per carry ratio is better than Eric Crouch's.
People didn't like him neither, so....

And then he was gone, and we missed him. Another fun fact: Taylor has led NU to more victories over ranked teams than all the starting QB's since Eric Crouch combined (7 total).

Edit: added missing word.

I won't argue with you on that one, but think about who we had after Crouch and what the context of those teams were.

Jammal Lord - 2 year starter

Joe Dailey - 1 year starter, 5 win team

Zac Taylor - 2 year starter, a couple of 8 win teams IIRC

Sam Keller - less than 1 full season

Joe Ganz - a couple of crappy games after Keller got hurt and started a full season with an 8-win team

I'm with you guys on the fact that Martinez has been a very good to great QB for us (with exception of fumbles), but it's just another example that stats can be used to back any argument if you don't take a look at context.

Buh buh but.......Taylor is just an average QB.........

At least that's what some dousche nozzles think on other sites....and they firmly believe that....it's actually quite sad IMO. You don't make a play like Taylor did in the CCG last year and be an average QB.......sorry.........

Oh, I just realized I missed a word.

Combined.

Ah, there ya go. Now there's an impressive stat.

Whether you like Ganz or Martinez depends on what kind of offense you want to run. Ganz was a better thrower but can't run like Martinez or do the zone read like Taylor. They're different quarterbacks.

People forget so quickly that Ganz also had a penchant for very costly turnovers or mistakes at crucial moments.

Like when? Other than the sack he took against Colorado in 08 that had everyone thinking we were knocked out of field goal range, I have a tough time recalling when.

His pick in overtime against Texas Tech

that stupid interception against Texas Tech that cost us the game. That would of been a top 5 upset on the road....

While that turnover was inopportune, Ganz was the reason we went to OT. Remember that strike to Peterson with 35 seconds left to tie it up? Hell, if Armando Murillo doesn't get burnt deep by Crabtree on that 4th and 4 from Tech's own 35, it's a whole different ball game.

That interception is not what cost us the game...see my above post.

Texas Tech had just missed their extra point. We were in a perfect position to win that game, but Ganz' INT gave it away. It was a situation where he needed to just throw it away, and when it happened, most of us just sat there like "Why the hell did he even try to throw that?..."

It's funny the double standard that people have. If that were Taylor in that situation, people would absolutely dismantle him for it and say he folded under pressure.
