Bob Stoops proposes getting rid of North and South

Bob Stoops said in his Monday morning conference the Big 12 should do away with it's North and South Divisions and combine the Big 12 into one happy conference where each team plays 9 conference games.

Thoughts?

There are two main drawbacks to this - and the reasons I don't see it happening. And both, as you might have guessed, involve money:

1. One less non-conference home game - loss of revenue from tickets, concessions, etc. Conversely, one less out-of-conference big name foe (ala USC) that would get our foot in the door in prime recruiting locales.

2. No Big XII Conference Championship game - and the resulting loss of revenue and TV exposure.

No, it's too late to put the genie back in the bottle...

I like the idea, but this is 10 years too late. That is how it should have been from the beginning with NU and OU playing every year.

AR is absolutely right, although I have never liked the conference championship game idea in any conference, be it Big 12 or SEC or WAC when they did it. I also think it would be great to have Nebraska-OU every year again. I always looked forward to that double header of Texas-Texas A&M and Nebraska-OU, Nebraska-Colorado just never has had the same ring to it for me as an overall college football fan.

I agree with Stoops.

My selfish reasons - Local coverage sucks in Texas. Do you guys (outside the state) know that every local channel shows only highlights of the South teams on Saturday nights? And some of the chanels dont even show the scores of the rest of the big 12. It's sad really. Talking about the News-sports.

Selfish reason #2 - I miss watching Neb/OU every year.

Selfish reason #3 - The same boring schedule rotatated every two years. Blah. I'm tired of having to play K-state, Iowa State, and Kansas E V E R Y year.

Selfish reason #4 - Goal should be win the Big 12, not win the North. The win-by-default thing there isnt too exciting.

Selfish reason #5 - The whole "north/south" thing is too dividing. One big conference - all for one.

You could still have a championship game #1 vs #2 with one conference. It's not un-imagineable.

I am just seflish here, but I'll roll with the punches we have.

IN a 12 team conference the only real option is divisions. Without a round robin, you could have two unbeaten teams that never played eachother. Talk about chaos at the end of the season. Like AR said, too much money lost. And adding a 9th confernece game means the conference takes 6 more losses on the reason, garenteed. Not a good thing. The championships are the lesser of these evils.

There could be a very messy method of rotating divisions where teams fill ina nd out and there are no permenent divisions, but talk about mess.

or we could be like the domers and not belong to a conference but we know that will never happen. I am not serious about this so don,t get your panties in a bunch.

I don't like this idea very much. Right now at least you play every team from your division, and if you win that you play the best from the other. With this, you could have a lucky year where you don't play us, or UT, or OU, and then you have a free trip to the BCS while other teams are playing those guys. It's not a fair system.
