Bold and Intersting Article

It is sad that money dictates how College Football is played. With that said, I think Asante would be willing to throw a big hit on an unsuspecting official if we start seeing some poor calls. :w00t

Ahh, I see what you mean there. Kind of a "Longest Yard," throw the ball at the ref's junk twice in a row kinda thing, eh? :horns2 Rock on.

I highly doubt one of the most powerful, and dominant, conferences in College Football (all sports for that matter) could have EVERY ref on the take, or willing to throw games one way or another for the last 10+ years, and not have the NCAA find out about it. Someone, somewhere would of said something by now... So do they only do this for Texas? How about KU in basketball? NU for volleyball? This just sounds like someone setting himself up to be a big hero. If we win, everyone forgets about this "article", if we lose, then everyone will point to this and say "I told you so". Wait untl the game is played if it is so bad, I am sure the NCAA would have to step in and investigate.

I looked up Nebraska's eight conference games. In those games our opponents attempted 308 passes. They were called for holding 11 times. Nebraska attempted 197 passes and were called for holding 10 times. To be sure, that's not enough holding calls on our opponents. I could see how we could be called for holding so much despite 100 fewer attempts because our line isn't very good, but to only be able to find 11 holds on 308 attempts? Absurd.
That's an interesting stat. If you have the time, you should go look at the other dominant d-lines in college football and see how many times their opponents were called for holding.

Those teams would be, (just off the top of my head):

Alabama

Florida

TCU

Iowa

Oklahoma

Texas

Ohio State

Arizona

Boise State

I would think a reasonable thing to do would have been to wait for the game to actually be played, and then round up some proof for your article...
Yeah I thought he made some good points but I would have never written posted that article before the came took place.

Why not? If past performance is any indication, that is exactly what we are going to see on Saturday night. It will be up to the Blackshirts to continue to overcome that obstacle and win this football game regardless of how good or bad the officiating is.

I definitely would have written it before.

Bitching about it after the game does no good..(See OU/Oregon a couple? years back where Pac-10 officials admitted they made a mistake on the onside kick but couldn't "uncount?" the game ...or Texass not making the MNC or B12CC games last year due to wierd tie breaker rules).

Consider this a pre-emptive strike to let the conference know (Or maybe even up to the NCAA if they are ultimately pulling the strings) we'll be watching them closely (sorta like the ref's will be watching Asante a lot closer after those last two flags he got for late hits).

Might make the difference in stopping one or two drives and in a close game that could be huge.

It's almost similar to when you call a trick play and you let the ref know what you plan to do so he doesn't blow an inadvertant whistle before the play is over.

Waiting 'til after the play is blown dead does no good.

The refs at the Colorado game left 100+ yards worth of holding penalties out on the field. Some of the most disgraceful officiating I've ever seen.

That's no surprise about CU's numbers. Their offense was an illegal motion machine this year. It doesn't help when you have 2 QBs, but still....how hard is it?

Exactly! This is why the article is written before.

Bwahaha. That article sounds like a Mangino press conference. Tin foil hats for everyone!

BTW, the Big 12 was actually a little better about calling holding early in this year than they were in 2008. Tech got away with murder (or at least maiming Brian Orakpo) in Texas' only loss last year. If they had called holding consistently, OU and Tech might have had to learn to play O honestly and wouldn't have been so embarrased in their bowl games where holding was called on them and their O's failed spectacularly.
