Bo's resume compared to the nation against ranked opponents

Pelini has certainly had his hiccups, but I've believed when roughly compared to his peers he's done very well. When his name was put on alleged "hot seat" lists last season, his winning percentage was far above all the others on the list. Even going into this season, several publications have highlighted the 9+ win totals......but what I think is most impressive is Pelini is the only one on the list who took over a team with a losing record the previous season.
I'm curious how long we get to use "he took over a losing record team" justification for defending Bo. Guess what: Nebraska's had a winning record for 6 straight seasons now. But when are we going to take the next step? And if Bo's not the guy to get us there, we need to hire somebody who will.

People seem to be bagging on 9-14 as being bad, or at best, mediocre. I'm not so sure about that. Oh, it's not great. But it's not bad either. Maybe even a bit better than mediocre. Most of the coaches listed have a losing record against ranked opponents. Only 8 coaches have a winning record in their current gig versus ranked opponents. ( 12 have winning career records). And 53 have losing records in their current job, with 8 ties including several 0-0. (Career wise, 51 have losing records.) That puts Bo's 9-14 somewhat above the middle of the pack. Someplace between mediocre and great. Perhaps a B- in report card terms. So sure, there's plenty of room for improvement. But it's not like we've sucked in these past few years of the Pelini era.

Another thing to consider is that there are six current job 0-0 records. All new guys in the current job. You gotta figure that most of the coaches they replaced would have had among the crappiest records on that chart.

whatever you have to tell yourself.
Let's say Bo was 12-12 in his games against ranked opponents. Would that mean he's an average coach? Only 8 coaches of the 66 listed have a better record than .500. (12 have career records better than .500)

But Bo is 9-14, not 12-12. Even though .391 (9-14) is below .500, Bo is somewhat above the average coach's record of the 66 listed. You understand why that is, don't you? The ranked top 25 teams are in the top 25 because they don't get beat as often as the 101 teams that aren't ranked. That's all I'm saying.

I don't know if Eichorst reads this board or not, but your request might be a tough sell.

I think it's pretty simple.

I love these comments. How bout you do something about it, if it is so needed. It's easy to point the finger at someone. Fork over some money, start a petition...do something. Instead of rabbling on a internet message board about how things need changed if this and if that.

that is not annoying. someone gives their opinion on a message board. a response is given that they should do something about it, seemingly to ignore that this is a message board dedicated solely to sharing opinions.

No. What is annoying is the constant Fire Bo vs Keep Bo garbage.

Unfortunately, my time on this planet has shown me that common sense can be a difficult concept. Thank you for displaying some.

yeah, i always thought the worst part about message boards was the discourse.
It is. But the continuous beating of this dead horse is soooooooooo beyond tired. Let this young team mature and get experience.

Seems there was some misunderstanding of what I was saying. I'm not saying Fire Bo. I'm not saying Keep Bo. I'm saying that the results show an "elite" level of coaches. Bo doesn't fall on that list. Doesn't mean he never will, just means that he's not right now. I think he can turn it around, but how long do we keep kicking the can down the road if Nebraska's record doesn't improve?

It's been mentioned already, but I only notice a few coaches who are above .500: Nick Saban, Les Miles, Urban Meyer, Bob Stoops, and Steve Spurrier, David Shaw, Brian Kelly, Gus Malzahn, Jumbo Fisher, and Chris Peterson. Those are your "elite coaches" right now in college football. But with the exception of David Shaw and Gus Malzahn, a lot of these coaches are well into their coaching careers. Bo's approaching this point, and this season would be as good as any to start reversing that record.
David Shaw inherited a winning Stanford team from Jim Harbaugh. All he had to do was keep it going. Only Callahan himself could've derailed that PAC-12 train. Gus Malzahn is a different story, he inherited a train wrecked Auburn team from Gene Chizik and turned things around after just one season. Too early to tell if he can keep the team going. Brady Hoke turned things around at Michigan, and now he is on the hot seat for a recent slump despite very good recruiting classes.

Shaw was apart of Harbaugh's staff from the get go. He is almost as responsible for them being good as Harbaugh was. Gus took over the same Auburn team that had won a MNC a few years earlier, can't really say it was a train wreck. I'll give you Fred Flintstone cause he has had ONE good season and that is it.

except the qb? which some people incessantly want to give up on after only a truncated season where he went 7-1.
