TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida State offensive coordinator Jeff Bowden is stepping down.

He resigned Tuesday, just three days after the Seminoles were shut out for the first time in 233 games.

Athletic director David Hart Jr. says the resignation will be effective at the end of this season.

Bowden, the youngest son of Florida State head coach Bobby Bowden, replaced now-Georgia head coach Mark Richt as the Seminoles' offensive coordinator in 2001.

Florida State has its homecoming game Saturday against Western Michigan followed by the season finale on Nov. 25 against intrastate rival Florida.

Bobby Bowden has stood by his son's performance as offensive coordinator despite a notable decline in scoring and yardage gained in the past half-dozen seasons.

The school had skirted a nepotism policy by having the younger Bowden report to another coach on the staff other than his father.

When I read the title , I thought it was Bobby.

Its hard to hang it up , but sometimes necessary

I believe Jeff saw the writing on the wall. Either step down now on his own accord or get fired at the end of the season.

man, this is gonna make for some uncomfortable moments around the dinner table this thanksgiving.

:yeah

I am sure it could...but I am thinking Bobby should be stepping down soon as well. If he can't see the writing on the wall, he needs to new glasses....and not orange ones!

I don't think he will after this year, but maybe after next season if they have another .500 season.

They definately aren't the same FSU...........However, I prefer it like this because I really don't care that much for 'em............

I lived in Panama City, Florida in '93. Do you know how tough it was to drive by the same billboard every day on my way to work that read:

1993 National Champions... 'nuff said.

Let me tell ya, it was pretty damn tough.

Bobby should follow suit.
