Brown is great at developing these guys. He's pitiful at making more than one at a time contribute meaningfully. Out of three capable, talented backs--Abdullah, Heard, and Green--we've managed to keep one of them. Green by all reports wasn't up for earning a spot, in which case we're better off without him. Braylon looks to be a different matter. He broke his back to get on this team, shined whenever he was in the game, and then we hear that he might have been asked to play another position--that's three positions in as many seasons.Ameer has to avoid injury in the first 3-4 games and we are fine. And get Newby/Taylor some touches to get them into the groove just in case.
IN RON BROWN, I TRUST.
I like Cross but I wonder about his role in the offense. We rush off the edge a lot. To me Cross looks like a guy whose job should be driving straight up the middle, carrying bodies. Maybe Beck has designs to make that a possibility, but if they were asking Braylon to play receiver, who knows what he's thinking these days.
As for the freshman, I don't believe in miracles. If Ameer goes down and Cross is not exactly suited to be an every down back in this offense, we're either looking at King Frazier or a true freshman. That's not ideal. With the loss of Braylon we went from pretty loaded to praying Ameer doesn't get hurt. I think someone else said it, but there really is no bright side to this situation. It's hard to blame Braylon or make sense of how he was used during his time here.
