They can have him. Who's going to be his OC? The High School coach of whatever hot recruit he wants, year in and year out?

That stunt alone made me SO happy he turned us down in 2004. What a goof!

The problem is that he hired the coordinator, then didn't let him run his offense. Gus Malzhan went from Arkansas to The University of Tulsa this year, and I believe I heard that TU now has the #1 rated offense in the nation (http://sportsnetwork.com/default.asp?c=nytimes&page=cfoot/stat/ncaa-team-totaloff.htm). Much like NU, they don't have a defense, and that's the only thing holding them back. TU did beat BYU in a score fest earlier this year...

I'm not supporting Houston Nutt for NU coach, I'm simply disagreeing with you reasons he shouldn't be coach. I'd argue that he shouldn't be coach because he hired a really good OC and then tied the OC's hands behind his back. I honestly believe that if Nutt had let Malzhan run his offense at Arkansas, they'd have had a much better year, especially given the talent of McFadden and Jones.

Wait a minute....a coach overmangaing his team? Not letting his OC do his job when he would do an outstanding job? Man its like a dream. Where have I heard all this before? :sarcasm

They can have him, I'm glad we didn't get him. When I heard the plane was in Arkansas interviewing him 4 years ago, I was like who???? So glad we didn't hire him.

It's hard to be glad we didn't hire him considering who we did hire. However, I do agree with you that we'd be exactly where we are now had we hired him. I still think about the 3 names bantered around 4 years ago (Stache, Nutt, Clownahan) and still can only think :wtf

Exactly correct.

I was pretty much making a joke there. :)
