I know a breakout player of 2013 poll was created a while back ago.......

Now with emergence of more info. on possible freshman seeing playing time, who do you believe makes an impact on the team right away? A player who sees the most playing time, makes plays here and there, and helps the Huskers win games. I am going with Nathan Gerry.

To be honest, from everything that has come out of camp, I'd be surprised if Gerry didn't win this poll in a landslide.

To be honest, my breakout player pick would be a RB - but they'll be held back because they have proven depth in front of them (Ameer, Cross) where Gerry doesn't have anything. So, I believe, one of our RBs could be, in fact, the "breakout" player, but would see the field less than Gerry or Bando for instance.

From the way it sounds Gerry, Banderas. Taylor and Newby are the ones they are talking about the most. I would also say Gerry, and Taylor on offense are the ones I'm most excited about seeing play

Good point. Newby could emerge as a special package-type back that is dangerous in the backfield and the return game.

Heard Kevin Maurice's name mentioned a few times. Would graet to see him and Collins be the break out players.

Went with Gerry though.

I'm thinking Cethan Carter has a good chance of getting early PT.
Actually, this would probably be the better choice.

I guess he is being kind of overshadowed by all the buzz about Gerry.
I think a TE is harder to be a breakout player in this offense. So many different weapons offensively.

EDIT - But like I said, I think its hard to base it on PT on this current team.

Yeah, you don't see many frosh get PT at tight end. But we lost Ben Cotton and Kyler Reed, our two top guys from last year. And now Jake Long and Jared Blum are dinged up. So Cethan gets pushed to the front. He's in a situation where he could make a name for himself early on and earn the position.

Nathan Gerry was switched from his natural safety position to a linebacker spot, where we were already supposedly loaded. To me, that means the coaches see something obvious in him that means he has to find the field one way or another. Moreso than anyone else. Even if it's situational, they want him out there.

Could turn into a Matt Herian type of situation. That would be good...well, assuming he doesn't get hurt like Herian did.

Yeah, when is the last time we had a great tight end for three or four years? Johnny Mitchel bailed early to the NFL. Matt Herian lost a couple years due to injury. Even Tracey Wistrom got tagged a couple times with injuries.

Went with Cethan Carter, he seems to get getting alot of praise from Martinez.

I honestly don't think there will just be 1. I went with Gerry because it seems that he will see plenty of time starting game 1, and his athleticism could be scary out there.

Additional guys:

-Cethan Carter. Obvious based on Taylor's comments.

-Newby. I think we see him make his impact in the return game. I'm looking forward to seeing his speed and elusiveness out there.

-Banderas. I would not be surprised one bit based on Bo's comments recently to see him starting at MLB by conference play. There is a definite urge to get Santos back on the outside, so if Banderas is ready, I think he's the guy down the road at MLB.
