BRI Strikes Again

MADISON, Wis. - A police officer has been reprimanded for accidentally discharging a Taser, causing an injury — to the police officer.

Madison police released a report Monday on the July 31 incident, without revealing the officer's name or gender. The department said the Taser accidentally discharged during a standard checkout procedure.

According to a summary of the investigation, officers are required to make sure no air cartridges are loaded before testing the Taser gun at the start of each shift. It's the air cartridges that propel the Taser's prongs, which deliver a jolt of electricity when they strike a target.

The officer's hand was injured, police spokesman Joel DeSpain said.

A letter of reprimand was issued because failing to ensure the air cartridge wasn't loaded was a violation of department policy, the report said.

I'm wondering what BRI's opinion on the use of tazers is...or anyone's opinion. I had the discussion the other day with someone (after that whole "Don't taze me bro!" incident). She basically said she thought police shouldn't be allowed to use them because they can kill people. Then I read something today of a guy in an airport who was tazed ended up dying later.

Personally, I think they should be used. Maybe not as a first resort method for subduing someone, but a next obvious step before the use of lethal force. Of course, the citizens of my community are a lot safer off knowing that I'm not a police officer. I love watching COPS style shows and can't believe the way some people act. If it were up to me every LEO could use a baton on anyone and everyone. Of course if it were me I'd just pull my gun and start shooting off limbs until someone complied. Too many damn idiots in this world.

"For the 10th time, I said shut the f#*k up and get on the ground."

We are trained that tazers will not kill people. They do not affect pace makers or cause your heart to go into any type of weird rythms. As harsh as it is to think the makers of the tazer say that they can even be used on pregnant women as well and will cause no harm to the baby. The tazers are another tool for officers to use so that lethal force is avoided at all costs. Obviously every situation is different and lethal force is always a possibility, but there have been many times where a subject had a weapon and without the tazer he/she would have been killed. I personally have used the tazer numerous times on individuals and find that it is more effective than pepper spray ( or OC as we call it). Most people are done fighting as soon as you taze them unlike the pepper spray where they seem to get more upset. Also, pepper spray affects the officers that use it and the officers that may be apprehending the suspect.

They're made out here (in Scottsdale) and today on a morning Radio Show (KDKB.com) they were discussing the new trend out here similar to the old Tupperware parties.

Tazer parties: where Women are allowed to try them out on dummys? and order them in pink, pewter, blue, black...

They were saying many of the women wanted to volunteer their Husbands for target practice.

Might encourage more perps to start wearing shirts on that show.
