Brooks is out!!

As far as brooks injury, he injured his meniscus and will have it scoped today
My father in law had that happen to him while running through an airport. He said it hurt like hell, but after having it scoped it has been great. I think actually it isn't that uncommon.
who is your father in law OJ

Nope, just a human with knees that was going to be late for a flight. ;)

People are blowing this out of porportion. He is going to be out for a couple weeks, 3 at the most. That's nothing. He can just watch practice and at least get an idea of how the play is suppose to be run properly, so that when it's his turn to run the play, he knows exactly where he needs to be on the field. Sometimes things like this have an advantage and disadvantage. How many times did Jason White sit out games before he became a starter for OU and looked where he took them to. 2 national championship games
Yes, but this offense demands reps to really understand. He will be missing a huge and more importantly very important time of the year. This is where starters get their jobs.
I have to disagree with you there. Joe Dailey got so many reps in the spring and fall last year and look where it got us. Some people just pick up stuff faster then others and some people don't. Some people are visual and need to see something to understand how it works. Some people can read material and understand it without having to see it visual. I can't remember what the training excercise we did in highschool where it tells you what kind of person you are, but Chris brooks could be one of those guys who doesn't need to see the play in person to understand how it works.

No I believe Joe needed even more years with the reps that come with it. Repetition my man.

Joe maxed out on his ability to run the WCO IMO-if you can't find any improvement at all after 11 games, then it isn't going to happen.

Now, a touted freshman, recruited to run the system, is a different story. Repetition is the best way to learn an offense.

I agree, FF, if it comes time for the season to kickoff and Brooks is not at a level that he could make an impact this year, then save him for the future.

Brooks will be fine, he wont be a starter right away but to say he needs to redshirt is absurd. We do not have as many receviers as recruited, losing two to being dumbasses so we need Brooks for his size/speed even if it is only a couple plays/formations. If he is really good he will be a starter by mid-season. This sucks but maybe we will just run a bit more and as we all know we have serious depth and options there... :horns2

Nunn?

LeFlore?

Fluellen?

Hardy?

There are 4 solid receivers to rely on this season, not to mention several others that could make an impact.

Thats great we have 4 solid but you dont think a WCO offense needs more than 4 solid receivers? I am sure Cally will not redshirt one receiver this year unless they are seriously injured. Some receivers will be only used in certain formations due to their specific skill. So unless his knee is blown he will be back and will be welcomed IMO

Swift has shown tremendous improvement, just look at the spring game. We are five guys deep without brooks at that position, and Spain may still be in the mix, and Bowman may play both ways, so I think that the loss of Brooks to red shirting would not be catastrophic, all though I still think it might not be neccessary.

Swift and Spain were the others that I thought could make an impact this year. I think the most WR's that will usually be used in a play will be 3, so having a solid 4 plus some other contributors would make it an easier choice to redshirt Brooks. It will just come down to how quickly he recovers and picks up the offense, along with how Cally feels about the receiver corps.

Just for what it is worth on the orthoscope. My son had his done on a Tuessday and raced supercross the following Saturday nite. It heals very quickly. There was a little swelling but by the following Monday he did not even know it had been done. I would imagine it depends on the amount of work to be done though. And in honesty most knee surgeries anymore are done by the scope, unless it is major disaster.

From what they are saying I would guess he is at practice and walking the plays at least. My son walked out of the outpatient surgery with in an hour of the operation. Most sports ortho's now want them using the injured area as quick as possible.

I don't think Brooks will be redshirted, his impact will probably be felt later in the year though. I agree with stuckinchicago that Swift could have a nice season. He seems to really be working in nicely. Nunn will be better this year and LeFlore, Mulkey, and Fluellen all have experience(although Fluellen has to have softer hands this year). Brooks is going to be a stud, it might just take a couple more weeks IMO.

I think it can work both ways. Sometimes it is good to sit and look at things for a bit, but the reps are very important. If he's out too long, it ain't good. But, I guess we'll find out soon enough.

I've wondered, with the amount of talent we have coming in this year's freshman class if the staff will decide to redshirt some players at the skill positions. I don't really think we can afford to redshirt any of the WRs at this point, but if Brooks isn't ready to go either physically or mentally, I would at least hold him out of the first couple of games and see where he's at around the start of the Big XII season and how our other WRs are in terms of production and health. Here's hoping he's healthy...This has been the longest offseason ever, get to the games already!!!
