Burkhead, Ball are Doak Walker semifinalists

Nebraska's Rex Burkhead and Wisconsin's Montee Ball have been named semifinalists for the Doak Walker Award, which is given to the nation's top running back.

The other semifinalists are:

  • Ronnie Hillman, San Diego State

  • LaMichael James, Oregon

  • Henry Josey, Missouri

  • Zach Line, SMU

  • Chris Polk, Washington

  • Joseph Randle, Oklahoma State

  • Trent Richardson, Alabama

  • David Wilson, Virginia Tech

Sadly, I see this award going to Trent Richardson. But good for Burkhead. GBR!

Huh, Stanford's running back isn't on this list? I remember thinking he was pretty darn good.

 
That is some pretty good company to find yourself in. Rex by all accounts is an integral part of our team and seems to be able to do it all, but there are some better pure backs on this list. Still wouldn't trade Rex for any of them though.

Stepfan Taylor. I remember watching him once this year and thinking man, he reminds me sorta of Rex. Doesn't seem like the blazing type, but just seems to have the will and ability to gash defenses for big runs whenever they are available.

Hey some were asking for the Heisman earlier in the season. He gets on the list this year with a strong showing maybe even wins it. If he returns he is a front runner for it next year like James and Richardson were this year.
