It is amazing the attitude most on this board have after getting pushed hard by San Jose St., struggling vs New Mexico St, even though we had played 8 qtrs and they none, and then losing our next three games. I too am proud of the way they played this weekend, but they still found a way to lose. The Huskers play well one game and now we will go 5-1 in the second half? Even the crappiest teams come up with a surprise game once a year - maybe this was ours. All I am saying is last weeks game means nothing unless we back it up in Ames this weekend, and from where I sit we will be lucky to win.

What I want to know is how do we win this weekend? Can anyone tell me what we do well that will take advantage of a weakness ISU has or will we assume victory because we gave Tech a good game and I bet they would smoke ISU by 6 td's? What is the difference between KU and Tech? ISU led KU 20 - 0 at the half only to lose by 2, and now we should chalk up a W days before the game is even played?

In one 4 hour period we went from - we have a long way to go, to - we've arrived! Not bloody likely. Go ahead and start ragging on my post, but don't call me a pessimist, just a realist.

 
Team showed a pulse. How well they execute could still vary from week to week. It's all up to how they respond after a letdown. Will it be like Kansas after Texas last year? Hopefully not.

As fans, I think we're all very, very, very relieved, if a little heartbroken. The team, though, doesn't have the same sense of satisfaction - I hope.

absolutely, nothing wrong with seeing this glass as being half full. give them a chance, give them some support. team attitudes are much better, obviously, and ganz is playing hard, despite throwing a few pics.

i bet the kid gets some looks in the draft, for no more real game experience than he has had, he shows some potential to me.....let''em play and let's see if these kids can get better.

 
A balanced attack that controls the clock is a good recipe to beat anyone. I think that NU will need to do this to beat ISU. Also, keeping your guy in front of you on defense in the secondary in an attempt to not give up big plays will be key. Allowing a team to put up the same score in 20 minutes as you put up in 40 minutes means you are giving up big plays.

 
5-1 is not out of reach down the stretch. I think that avoiding the silly penalties and keeping the turnovers down, gives this team a very good chance to win 5 more. Yes underdog teams do rise up and play above their heads. Nebraska is much better than they were at the beginning of the year. If they weren't Bo would be on a hot seat, first year or not. I saw the attitude difference the first game. They fly to the ball, don't give up on a play on defense or offense. Totally different than last year. Maybe they lose the rest of their games , but it won't be from lack of fighting till the finale whistle.

no we arent, but A) I think we are improving and B) the teams we play from here on out aside from OU and KU range from mediocre to very bad. but people need to remember that just like we can beat a pretty good KU team, some of those bad teams can knock us off too.

I don't think we have arrived by any means. That said, the first step towards arriving is resiliency. Nu got smoked by Missouri in a game that could of been much worse than it was had Missouri not been merciful. Then, when national pundits had a predicted 69-10 score against TTech and the whole nation was laughing at and ridiculing NU as a doormat --- and our own fans (myself included) thought we'd lose by 40-50 pts) --- the NU team nearly wins the game on the road. That is resiliency --- the ability not to roll over and play dead, not to give up and accept defeat, to come back against all odds and against the ridicule of the nation and prove them wrong.

This team, as you say is not very good --- if by this you mean they are no where near top 25 material. True enough. But they really over-achieved against TTech and this says much about the character of the team. They have grit. And that is where the hope lies.

Will we go 5-1 from here on out as some suggest? Likely not. Will we make a bowl game? maybe --- and certainly in view of the TTEch game I am far more confidant now than I was a week ago that we will play in December. So, have we arrived? No. Are we a good team? No. Are we clearly headed toward arriving and becoming good? Yes.

And that is much better a position than I thought we'd be in this week.

 
I haven't read much of the Board yet, but I am definitely not saying Nebraska has arrived. We still lost the game, right? We're still 3-3, right?

Watson and company did a great job on offense. They cut the amount of plays, used what was working, and executed. If we control the ball like that against Iowa State, we will win. Texas Tech's offense > Iowa State's offense. Texas Tech did not have the ball much, but when they did have it, they almost always scored. If we give Iowa State the same amount of chances...well, I definitely like our chances of winning that.

 
Gotta love when people take a pessimistic view and then couch it in "realism" as if they're the only one who sees THE TRUTH. If you have an opinion, express it, but don't act like you're the only "realistic" person here.

agreed. For the most part no one really knows what is going to happen, nor are any of us close enough to the team to really what is going on anyway

You are correct, but they are progressing. They need to dump this WC offense and run a college offense like OSU, mix in some spread, with option and zone read and the base I-formation playbook of Osborne.

I'm out of ISU kool-aid this year. They pretty much suck from the top down. Great marketing department...crappy football team :angry:
