Callahan apparantly does care about academics

For those of you who think that the tradition of academic excellence for athletes wont continue under Callahan, ponder the big twelve honor roll. 31 Huskers were named to the big twelve honor roll for those who have earned a 3.0 gpa or better, and 16 of them are freshman or sophomores, all of which were part of Callahan's recruiting classes.

There's no way this can be. Callahan is the devil, recruits kids that can barely read, attempts to win at all costs, etc. etc. etc. :sarcasm

Ok, after that barrage of negativity, I have been saying it all along. Callahan is expecting much more out of these kids. Take their careers as STUDENT-athletes seriously, or don't bother with either. It's great to see. Being a good student doesn't necessarily take brains, just hard work and discipline. I think this says a lot about what the coaching staff is preaching. This would explain why boners like Birkle didn't like what was going on, because the coaches expect the players to dial it in on both fronts and work hard.

Nah. Hard work? Discipline? That's to much like the NFL. I just wanna drink.

Don't worry once they start dominating again all the skeptics will be choking on their words, They can try every angle to beat him down, and this proves he's on the right track - I was all for solich getting the axe and I was behind CALLAHAN from the start - So good for CALLAHAN, Another feather in his hat. :clap :cheers

This is what Nebraska football is all about!!! Kick a$$ on the field and in the books!!! Congratulations to these fine young men keep it up GBR!!! :thumbs

If you are not committed and have the discipline to get up in the morning and go to class you won't be committed or disciplined enough to be productive on the football field...it is about building character through the development of sound habits....plus there probably are not enough pictures to color in the playbook!!!!

Yeah, right.. those Oklahoma teams under Barry Switzer really hit the books! ..lol

Actually, quite a few of them did, they just had a lot who didn't also.

and what 3 out of all of those are callahan scholarship recruits. The rest are either franks or walk ons.

Lets see about the recruits benard.

Crag Roark

Zach Potter

Harrison Beck

Jordon Congdon

Lance Brandonburg

J.B. Phillips

what about the preferred walk-ons do they count as recruits? and so what if they are walk ons they are still part of the program and they have to maintain the standards of the team or they dont make the team.

Ugh-

You are never going to get it man. Callahan can be in year 6 of his regime, with 3 North titles and the academics at this high standard and you will still spout the same garbage. Crawl back in your hole. :dumdum

Gee, I thought that Callahan had cut the walk on program. I count six frank recruits that were scholarship guys, the same as Callahan.... Your argument still holds no water.

Brandenburg was originally recruited by Solich, but signed with the new staff and Callahan in the 2004 class.

Phillips signed with Solich in 2003

What difference does it make who's recruits are who's? They are all Huskers and since Callahan has become head coach, the team's Grade Point Average has improved. FACT. End of story.

I don't particularly care. Given what grade inflation is at NU and other state schools, I'm not that impressed by most of the GPA's that these athletes put together. It's just that if someone is going to make a thread about how wonderful Callahan is, they should at least get their facts straight.

Is there anyway you can prove or disprove that? Or is that just an off-the-cuff remark based upon opinion? I don't understand how you could possibly quantify what you just said. Like you just said, if you are going to post, get your FACTS straight. :thumbs
