Callahan: will he resign or get fired?

First of all, I think we can all agree at this point that things aren't going to work out with Callahan. I am sure Steve Pederson knows the same, even if he isn't saying so publicly, which he shouldn't.

So, do you cut your losses now and find a way to pay Callahan's contract out? NU might say "we can't afford it," but at this point, can we (NU) afford not to? At stake is untold $$ millions in lost revenue to the school, lost TV exposure, etc., etc. The type of millions that would make a buy-out look like pennies.

So after the season, do you say "You're fired, and here's a check for your remaining term"? or do you say "Look, we both know this isn't working. Why don't we allow you to resign and we will come to terms with you on a pay-out"?

If I'm Callahan, I would rather resign and get $4 million, than be fired and get $6 million.

How would this work?

Callahan will not resign or be fired until his contract is up. He is here for a few more years.

If this is the case were going to have a long 5 years.

 
Unfortunately, there is probably no way he will resign. If he quits on his own accord, he'll have two huge strikes on his record at Oakland and NU. He'll be known as the chosen one to ruin two teams in short order. No way he'll be given a head coaching gig again. No, I think we're married to him for 4 more years through thick and thin.

I totally disagree. If he's back next year, there will be a rebellion of untold proportions at Nebraska, and the administration knows it full well. A buy-out of some sort is on the way you can bet on it.

 
OMG, plz no way can we afford to be stuck with this guy for the next 5 years...this is going to be a nightmare

There are plenty of Nebraska faithful with jack enough to write a check for the guy's buy out and never even know it's missing. It will happen. I will go on record and say that he will not be the football coach after the Colorado game.

lets just hope he can pull his head out of his rear and get the team going. its great that he can recruit now he has to develop these players. this is something that osborne was great at.

 
I would write a check for $5,000 today to help get this guy bought out. If we could round up 1000 of me, we'd have it done and over with.

Just for the record, I don't care for BC. However, I will make a friendly bet with you that he is our HC next year and the year after that. I've already been proven wrong once this week when I told the KU poster they'd lose to KState, so I might as well go for a perfect record this season. I just don't think there's any possible way unless we lose ever single game badly the rest of the season that BC isn't the coach for the next 2 years. I think Pud will handle it kind of like Solich. I think BC will have to fire some assistants, but he will be here next year.

No, he will thankfully not be fired and he will not resign. We should not follow the path of Alabama and we do not have the money to hire a Nick Saban. Callahan, who can recruit out of state players due to the WCO, is the best coach we can have currently.

Anyone who thinks that Frank Solich or Turner Gill would be better than Callahan is insane. We'd be 2-4 now, or worse, with either of them as HC.

I don't think anyone's saying Frank or Turner would be better. But it's a decent bet that any viable candidate would be at least as good.

While I really liked Solich, and I really like Callahan, too, I understand why Pederson made the change. He just made a bad hire. He'll need to fix it - that's the guys' job.

Recruiting isnt our problem u idiot. Our problem is that our team plays with no motivation, no desire, no heart, & gives up when they fall behind by 2 touchdowns.
