Callahans adjustments BLAH BLAH BLAH

If you think Zach Taylors numbers were due in large part to him and his wonderful athletic brilliance as opposed to the schemes and offense put in by Callahan, ur foolish.
If Mr. Taylor was so damn good there would be talk about him and the NFL, but as it stands now he will be lucky to get drafted and to even make a roster.

Scouts, not me, say he cant run, he doesnt have a good enough arm to make the necessary throws.

Keller can do both.

Oklahoma, Taylor had to throw, he was awful. Texas not so good, Auburn just as bad.

We were sixth in rushing because they geared up to stop our run. We were fourth in passing because we threw so much.

There is no point in arguing. You are going to skew all thoughts, rationale, and stats to side with you and that is fine its your opinion.

Mine is different, i dont think Taylor was very good, and next year you will see a whole different offense without the second half struggles. When that happens you can come on here and say YES Cally learned how to coach and I CAN SAY, YES see what happens when you have a good QB, it will never be settled.

Finally i think you are closer to being full of $hit than me.

Love ya though, after all you are a Husker Fan

Nobody in their right mind would equate Taylor's abilities to top tier NFL caliber QBs that are in the draft. However, that does not mean that Taylor was not an excellent COLLEGIATE quarterback. I remember Major Applewhite - my favorite collegiate player of all time (yeah...and he wasn't even a Husker!). I loved him for the same reasons that I love Zac - poise in the pocket, leadership, willing to take a hit, smart decisions...just a tough nut. It amazed me that Mack Brown started Sims instead of Applewhite when Applewhite was a senior. Sims undoubtly had more athletic skills but all the untangibles that makes a great quarterback were missing. Then in the Holiday Bowl in 2001, Applewhite subplanted Sims and engineered the greatest rally in school history (down by 19 points). That was perhaps my favorite performance from a football player on any level. So before you try to take Zac Taylor down because he didn't have the greatest mobility (okay.... no mobility) and a gun for an arm, just remember that he has led this team successfully the past two years. I have no doubt that, if it weren't for Zac, we wouldn't have been nearly as successful the last couple of years. Zeller may have all the weapons, but the jury is still out on whether he can lead this team.

As far as your comment that I 'm "closer to being full of $hit" then you, you're probably absolutely right. I have no monopoly on "the truth".

I have no monopoly either. For some reason I just love to argue. My wife hates that about me.

I love Zach, he was great here. I will forever be grateful for what he accomplished.

I love Callahan for what he is doing here.

I just think it is bogus when people say cally cant coach because look at our second half struggles. There is way more to it than that. we all (me too) want to make everything a black and white issue when in fact there are several shades of grey to all things.

I think Taylors lack of pure skills made our offense somewhat predictable.

I think Taylors drive and desire took us places we didnt belong which gives him major props.

I think Taylors shortcomings cost us a few games, yet his heart and brains (alone) won us a few.

It just ranckles me to hear people bash on Cally. He has done a tremendous job in turning a bare (completely bare) cupboard into a pantry full of talent.

He has won us some games with his coaching and lost us a few with his stubborness also.

I truly think this coming year is the big one. I believe we are twice as good on the defensive side (even with the loss of the front four). I believe we have a significantly better offense due in part to maturity and improvement of the line, better more athletic options at WR, (just my opinion but a better all around RB with Lucky) and a QB that can make every throw in the book with some mobility.

If next year we see the same predictability and some other stuff then i will become a doubter. I just dont think we will

Actually, I don't know what we're "arguing" about....it seems that we agree more than we disagree - except.. I just don't profess to the idea that Zac was the reason that our offense was "predictable". I truly believe that Zac was an excellent collegiate quarterback. I also think that Cally is a good coach; however, he did have adjustment problems in the second half of games....I don't think that was Zac's fault. Cally's game preparation is outstanding, but I would like to see our team finish games next year and be more willing to veer from the original game plan once the opposing teams have made their adjustments. And I also am not jumping on the Keller bandwagon until I see him play some games.

Taylor is an extremely bright person, a tremendous leader, and has a lot of heart. That made up a great deal for his lack of talent. This made him a pretty decent QB, but not enough when teams made adjustments or had great talent. I think landonhusker is right. I don't think we had the difference-making receivers who also could had made up for some of Taylor's lack of athletic talent. Even Purify, who has great potential, faded at the latter part of the season. So, yes, we will see how Keller and these new receivers do next year, and whether our top receivers last season remain our top receivers. If Brooks, Henry and Holt are as good as what I have been hearing and Purify reaches his potential, you wonder at the very least if those four will be the main targets next season. It just doesn't seem like guys such as Nunn, Swift and Hardy have enough ability against the better Division I talent. Or not enough talent to adjust to DB adjustments. It will be interesting next season. :)

I am not sure what I think the talent level of our receives are. I do know that there were many times we had wide open receivers that Zac just did not see. Many times Zach held onto the ball for what seemed like forever...were the recievers not getting open or did Zac just not see them? I just don't know.

another thread that could go on forever in the off season.

hmmm.....we had problems "adjusting" last year, but in 05 we would comeback from behind in the second half. Why?

I'm not even sure the problem was "adjustments." There are limits to how much adjusting a team can do. All I know is that we seemed to come out of the shoot like a race horse only to fade away. Personally, I'd bet the coaches know what was going on and had no good fix for it. They're not stupid. I just hope it doesn't happen again this year cuz we have a better/tougher schedule. We can't afford to check out for the second half.

After all, our opponents sure seemed to know what was going on because they were successful in taking advantage of it.

05 we had horrendous starts and first halves. Last yr out fast but fade.

Guess if the staff knew why, we would of been 14-0, 13-1. You can bet Callahan and Co is spending countless hrs for a solution.

"Last yr we stressed starting out fast and finishing strong. Guess we should of said something about the middle part." - Bill Callahan disussing the 2005 season at the Big XII media days last season.
