I think Price was moved to DT to provide depth there, and because the young guys (maybe Barnett) are doing well enough that the coaches are confident they can provide depth on the o-line.

Foster is pushing Dylan Utter for the starting spot at LG. This appears in McKewon's training camp takes part 2 in today's OWH.

Good news on Farmer and Knevel in there too.
 
Lots of mixed reviews on the offensive line so far. If Lewis is really the best guy, I'm preparing for the worst.

With the rise in following recruiting, people get too caught up in having the young kids play/start right away. Unless these players are special, younger guys are generally going to be back-ups on the o-line. This never was an issue back in the day, when even the most talented o-linemen would come in, redshirt, play back up for a couple years, and then start for 2 years.

 
At right tackle, Nick Gates has a future coaches love. He's mobile in the run game and very competitive in pass blocking drills, which tend to be pretty easy for defensive ends to win. Zach Sterup and Gates continue to battle for that job, with Matt Finnin currently as a reserve. At center Ryne Reeves and Paul Thurston both look decent; Thurston has improved as a player and should be the guy next season regardless of whether he wins the job this year. Reeves looks in good in pass protection from what I've seen. Both are better snappers than their predecessor. The No. 3 center is Chris Long, with Michael Decker as a freshman. He'll be redshirting, as will Christian Gaylord, who's moved around some but should land at tackle. Both will look like different players after a full year's worth of weight room work. Jalin Barnett will, too - especially in the flexibility/body reshaping category - but he has "oh my" moments.

The staff said they want to pick their starting five this week and Lewis-Utter-Reeves-Kondolo-Gates have been getting basically all the first team reps the last few practices. There's your starters. Jerald Foster works in a little bit behind Kondolo but it sounds like that's about it.

The top group appears pretty clear: Left tackle Alex Lewis, left guard Dylan Utter, center Ryne Reeves, right guard Chongo Kondolo and right tackle Nick Gates. Right now, I wouldn't call it a vintage Nebraska offensive line. It needs time and chemistry, and Jerald Foster won't stop making his push at guard. Nebraska must stay healthy at tackle; there's not much depth there. Fortunately, something went right in the offseason weight program, because the offensive and defensive linemen (Vincent Valentine is the exception) have all been healthy and good to go in camp. Behind that top six, you have center Paul Thurston, right tackle Zach Sterup, left tackle David Knevel, and guards Chris Long and Corey Whitaker. That's the 11 in the mix, it seems.

Yeah, I'm sure Lewis is fine. I was interested in Knevel being the backup. Haven't heard much about him. Possibly because it's been a foregone conclusion that Lewis would start and play most of the snaps.
