Can Callahan mix it up?

Im sorry, but this is a dumb argument. Do you think Oklahoma is whining about how they never run the option anymore???? The option became obsolete when defenses got fast. You cant run an option against a good, aggressive, fast strong safety. That is why almost nobody, with the exception of Air Force and some other low and mid level teams, run the the option anymore. Some teams utilize their quarterback in the running game, due to an excess of athleticism at that position, but they dont run the option the way Nebraska did. They run quaterback draw options that take advantage of the other team's speed by having the DE run himself out of the play. Now if Nebraska tried to run that with a more athletic quarterback, I would have no issue with it.

The option worked with a dual threat, and before teams crowded the box. IMO TO could adapt a gameplan to work against just about any defense if he had the talent. FS relied on Crouchs' talent and Lords'??? and did not recruit well enough IMO. BC has said he will bring a balanced attack and what ever will work, we shall see.

Tradition: LP, 8 track, cassette, cd, dvd-a aint progress great growing pains at each step.

As excited as I am about BC, there is still a little hole in my gut that misses the power running game.

When we were 1 yard from the goaline in the Pitt game last year, I thought for sure BC would blast it up the middle for an easy score. We had the lineman, we had the runningbacks.

When he passed twice, it just felt wrong. Am I alone in my feelings?

I just hope one day he runs 10 plays in a row for a TD, it would just make me feel great!

What do you think?

 
I grew up on it in the 60's & 70's with Tagge/Van Bronson, and all the storied players before and after.

I believe BC will run what works for a given sit. We are getting the horses to do both again.

I guess to answer the orginial question, maybe if billy c. would spend a little less time trying to sell NU to the next "4-start-cant-miss-prospect" and spend more time doing something like, oh I dunno, formulating a game plan that would work, then he would have more success.

Heck, maybe if he would figure out HOW TO GET THE FREAKIN' PLAYS IN ON TIME, his offense wouldnt be giving 5 yards back to the opposing defense a few times a game, and they wouldnt be behind the 8-ball so much.

I believe Frankie had a MAJOR problem with delay of game penalties as well. I'm sure you forgot about that.

By watching the performance of his teams the last couple of years, I had a hard time telling that he had any type of plan at all.

BTW, yeah, it pissed me off when FS and co. had the same problems.

But I though that the great NFL/WCO guru, offensive genius, billy c. was going to fix all of those problems :sarcasm

 
Is it possible that Callahan can implement option into his West Coast offense? I know the WCO has a lot of running involved with it and was just wondering. Maybe split-back veer plays or something? I just can't see Nebraska with no option game, the trademark of the state. It's amazing how one person can come in and change the whole name of the game, huh? This Callahan is a threat to the well-being of the Husker Nation... especially with the game, in all levels, going back to the run. The era of the undersized OL ,DL ,and LB and pocket passer is being phased out. An agile QB, solid running game, and stout D is the core of what you need. This and great special teams. If this is what was working in the past, why change it?
