They have a better program than I thought. 12th most wins of any program. The MNC ins 2010, plus Cam's Heisman. Three Heismans in total, and two MNCs. And a buttload of sanctions over the years. A solid fit in the SEC.

According to Stassen (& James Howell's Database) they are #13 in wins & #16 in win%.

I have a feeling Delaney is turning the Big Ten into the Ivy League where we only play teams within our conference. If we go to more conference games and can't schedule fcs teams we are gonna have to schedule sun belt or mac teams just to get ready for the Big Ten. Less chance of marquee matchups when you only have 3 out of conference games. Sure Delaney is making more money but it's not making the conference any better which is where it needs to go.

how do Div IAA schools help us in any way, other than a likely win? Those games don't strengthen the team, just costs us a cool mil.

the fcs teams provide a purpose. They let us fine tune the basics and see what we have in backups. FCS teams are also starting to move up to FBS more frequently thus providing a greater challenge than in years past. You don't want to start conference play and not find out everything you can about your team. Starting out against a higher caliber you may not have the chance to find out because you can't put your backups in cause of a closer game.

There is another way to do this. It's called "practice".

yes. for one they practice against their own defense so they know more. two they watch film of team not exactly like playing against them. you can't substitute a simulation for a real game.

Your season starts game 1. If your backups aren't good enough to see the field during a game, they need more work in practice or they are not up to the challenge. Scheduling a FCS team is weak.

Strength of schedule is going to improve significantly. If the conference stays at an 8 game schedule then the FCS team on everyone's schedule will be replaced with a bottom feeding MAC, Sun Belt, Conference USA, or transitioning FCS team, which would still be a good improvement for the conference's SOS. If the conference moves to a 9 game conference schedule strength is improved even more as the FCS team is replaced with a Big Ten team. It will be very important to raise strength of schedule once we move to a selection committee to help break ties in a muddled field of 1-loss teams at the top of the rankings. Others will follow suit on the FCS matter.

This is the reason why Ohio State has added Virginia Tech, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas and to a lesser extent Cincinnati, Boston College, TCU, and North Carolina to their future schedules. The selection committee will look at the games you played out of conference. Playing Buffalo, San Diego State, California, and Florida A&M with the less than stellar Big 10 schedule won't turn many heads.
