Can we get back to being Husker fans?

Let's face it. Last year as we all know wasn't pretty. Time to get over it right? There was apathy everywhere....watching the games on TV, in the stands, and even on the field. At times fans were quiet and started heading for the parking lot in the third quarter.....

The question I want to ask is "Can we get back to being Husker fans again?" I confess, I don't live in Nebraska, but if I did and were able to attend games I would committ myself to being red, loud, and staying four quarters no matter the outcome.

We're Husker fans....supposedly the greatest fans in the nation. We're involved in everything...recruiting, spring games, and we know what down and how many yards we need for a first.....We're into the game. :thumbs

So let's get off our hands, get red, get loud, and be the fans that we're known for being. :horns2 Sound good?

By the way, I'll do my part in Washington state...I'll be with my fellow Husker fans at the Lucky Seven Restarant and Lounge in Kirkland, Washington (official watch site in Western Washington) wearing red, being loud, and staying all four quarters.

:horns2

Amen craigsker. I think this year we'll have more to cheer about, but you're right. The 12th man was on IR for most of last season. Having a confident QB should help us this year.

Right On! Since in live in Big Ten country, I can tell you that the Nebraska Fans are almost as famous as the team! The reputation of the fans for loyality, devotion (following the team), fairness, football knowledge and sportsmanship is known and appreciated by people who have had NOTHING to do with Nebraska football.

The fans are an important part of the reason that NU football is respected outside of Big XII country.

As a side note, I can remember Nebraska losing to Oklahoma 17-7 in 1987. I was 12 years old and an impressionable young Husker fan. To this day I can hear Husker fans calling for Osborne to be fired or at least retire. This was the fourth year in a row that the Huskers lost to OU and the "faithful" were ready for a change. Luckily for us fans, Osborne was kept on and he was able to build a successful program. Success spoils fans. Coming off the 1983 Orange Bowl and a narrowly missed National Championship, expectations were very high going into the next couple of seasons. When the results weren't the same, the fans were disappointed. I hope our fans understand that rebuilding a program in a short period of time involves some volatility, but if we get behind the current staff and give them a chance, we will be successful.

Let me start out by saying this: when I was in college I was very fortunate. We played for a NC each and every year when I was in college. Very and I mean very few of the games did the fans stay for 4 quarters. We blew almost every team out. By the start of the third quarter, there were huge holes in the stadium where fans had already departed to either begin their journey home or to go celebrate at the bars downtown.

I remember taking my younger brother to the Iowa State game. We were slaughtering them like 42 to 0 at halftime. I was ready to go, but he had never been to a game before. We stayed the entire game, and I bet 1/3 to 1/2 of the fans were gone.

I guess what I'm saying is this: we do have great fans, but we're also human. When things are great and we're blowing teams out, we as fans begin to lose interest. When things are bad like in 2002 and last year, we lose interest in seeing our Huskers pounded. When the Big Red is loud and really into the game is when the game is tight. This is when we have our 12th man advantage. We don't have that advantage when we're down by 30!
