Nothing to see here at all. A dad, still involved in his son's life, made a statement to the press confirming what Bo said.
It truly sucks for Martinez as he gave his all to this program and by choice or design, played a great part of it less than 100% healthy. Guy is a great representation of the Huskers. I personally wish it had ended differently for him. A conference win or at least a bowl win.
Speculating, but the injury could be sesamoiditis. The sesamoids are 2 small bones under the big toe. They can break or get inflamed and it hurts like hell. I had the inflammation type about 8 years ago and it still flairs up. Hard to walk, bend your big toe, put pressure etc.... It is often defined as a "turf toe" type injury.

After reading the article from Casey Martinez and the injury to Taylor I can sympathize with him. It sounds like the exact same injury that I had which started back in 2006, and still bothers me to this day. It has a lot to do with the form of your foot and how far down or how big the ball of your foot is to how bad it will aggravate it in the future. Mine started off as a hairline fracture on a very small bone directly behind the ball or the Big toe joint, and the cartilage between the two tore. Nothing they can do with it but remove the bone if it becomes debilitating, that is a last resort solution as there are other complications then. To this day if I step wrong especially on a ladder where I would put a lot of pressure there it about drops me. I always have shanks in my boots and inserts to take pressure off of it, but I still have to be careful because it is very painful. I couldn't imaging trying to play football on this type of injury and planting on it the way he has to. I really feel for him as this could and probably will end his football career.
I think the way Taylor has been babied and protected and coddled by both his father and Bo Pelini has been very odd. It was strange enough when he was a 18 year old freshman. It's even stranger now that he's 22 year old man.
It reminds me a little of a column I read recently that indicated that around 15% of college graduates take their parents with them to their first job interview. That just blew my mind. But in this age of coddling and infantilizing and helicopter parenting kids, I guess that's to be expected. The problem with never letting your kids grow up and take responsibility for themselves is that they never grow up and take responsibility for themselves. And that's ultimately unfair to the kids of those parents.

Is it really surprising be put in his two cents? It was a lenghtier ordeal when a potential NCAA cviolation with his apparel company was in question. The guy probably understands that his son will likely not be drafted and is dissapointed by that. One because he knew it was his sons dream. Two because he wont be getting that summer home in venice. End result, its his son. What harm does it do to comment on it whether asked by the media or not? You can bet your a$$ Jonathan Pigskins parents would be on the View and Jimmy Kimmel live to talk about it if it was their kid.

And I've thought the relationship between Casey and Taylor was odd for some time. Didn't Taylor get into trouble with Bo for talking to Casey on his cell phone in the locker room during a game? I've always had the impression that Casey was a over-involved "stage mom" and that Taylor was unable to grow as a man and a leader as a result.

I disagree with this. If you know anything about Joe Mauer's mysterious "bi-lateral leg weakness" injury of 2011, and how it was handled and communicated, you would know that is the weirdest sports injury. But T-Mart's might be a close second.

You're also on the outside in, and frankly don't have a clue. I don't mean that with hostility; none of us has a clue.
It might be odd, but so what? Odd relationships with parents are not actually that odd because most people seem to have them.
It's not fair or respectful to speculate about people's internal motivations, intentions and hearts based on a very small sampling of external factors.
The one thing I think it is fair to say, though, and is quite obvious, is that Casey Martinez loves and supports his son dearly, which is something to celebrate in our time and culture where neither of those things exist as much as they should.

What's crazy to me is we've really only had Taylor for 2 season at Nebraska. He was injured most of his sophomore season and wasn't at 100% and then he was injured most of this season. I'm not convinced he was 100% last year either. I really think the only 100% healthy and true Taylor Martinez we saw was his freshman year which is a real shame cause I really think with his improved passing last year that if he would have been at 100% we would have seen a pretty electric quarterback. And this year he would have been one of the top 10 in the country no doubt.
