CBS Article: Away from the sidelines, Nebraska's Pelini isn't that dragon

jameis winston had rape allegations hanging over his head and he and his team still managed to stay focused. what bo was facing pales in comparison.

so i would hope bo would be able to handle the heat he received, he certainly should have been prepared for it after the way 2012 finished.

but if bo can not handle distractions and pressure from a disappointing season and job speculation, what about the distractions and pressure from success? is this why we see implosions in big moments? that is a serious achilles heal if you want a program to perform at a high level. you have to stay focused regardless of the circumstances surrounding the program. whether that be heat from dissatisfaction or the attention you get leading up to championship games or even high-profile, national night games, for that matter.

Personally, I've never really had a problem with how Bo acts on the sidelines. Yes, the Texas A&M and Iowa things were beyond what is acceptable, but aside from that, I don't have any issues. I think the issue, mostly, is acting like a jerk when he's not on the sidelines - particularly post-game and post-practice interviews. Sometimes reporters are going to ask the questions you don't want to hear, it's all part of the gig. I think keeping his composure in those kinds of situations would go a long way in changing the perception. I do think he's grown a lot in that area since he's been here, but still has a ways to go.

Glad that's done with. I hope he is here for a long time. I think he is a good coach, not a great one yet, but could be. Time will of course tell. I feel the next two seasons will be what we all have been waiting for.

Boy, he has some good players in the fold and more on the way.

GBR!!!

Here is a picture of Gregg Doyel and Bo Pelini doing a selfie. I found this picture by clicking on the Chris Stuckey from the article and browsing through Stuckey's twitter feed.

@GreggDoyelCBS "I just learned what 'selfie' means." - Bo Pelini

It is definitely a PR piece, but it is a good one because it is a national guy doing it not some local stiff. I thought it gave a nice little insight into the man off the field. That is the man that TO sees and hired. if I think BP knows he has to clean up his image. I don't think his persona is a fair assessment of the man, but that is just my opinion.

I find Dantonio's after game pressers to be just as terse, and short as BP's and they are much more frequent. The difference is his pissed off nature has a much more sarcastic edge to it. I don't have a problem with it either.

I thought it was a cool article, and whether it's all a big PR production or not, anything that improves Bo's image is a good thing.

But I would bet that the Fargo/lunatic conversation didn't actually happen exactly as written in the article. I'm sure there were some journalistic liberties taken with how it was finally reported. Notice that he used actual quotes from Bo, but when he said that yes, Bo was a lunatic, he did not actually quote himself. I wonder what he actually said to Bo, or how he implied it.

Everything else that happened was in the past. Let's give the guy the benefit of the doubt that he has seen the error in his ways. Iowa was bad. Polo is right, he is lucky that hat didn't hit the ref.

That hat didn't hit the ref, he didn't get fired, he is in the process of getting an extension, and he is trying to let people in a little bit more. (past tense, present tense) Not just to his personality, but inside the program as well. Some real changes going on.

I am choosing to take it at face value right now and until something happens to make me rethink that I am done with the constant Bo talk. Let's talk football for at least the next few weeks.

GO BIG RED!

The hat wasn't even close to hitting the ref, but the ref might have caught some spit.....ala Bill Cowher.

Next step in Bo's image rehab: learn how to smile in photos! haha
He was smiling.

I was furious with Bo for his conduct during and after the Iowa game. But I also recognize my shortcomings and while I try to work on them they're still there.

And I also recognize some posters on this board have an agenda that they just will not let go of. Accountability made a good point. Bo could live the rest of his life like Mother Theresa and the agenda carriers would not let it go. It is what it is.

A little public job speculation.....yes, that's what it was......
You and I are at least on the same page. That it was well beyond that. And that there was also little to NO communication from the admin to Bo and vice versa. It was a very awkward time for the staff. And yes, it took TO-again-to step in and advise that someone say something before the circus continued. Like Bo's own words. "If they wanna fire me, then fire me". But for sh#t's sake quit dancing around the bush. Someone make a decision and stand by it. Cuz that over speculation was, as Bo said, doing nothing but hurting the program. Like the Florida AD did, make a statement, and put an end to it all so business can go on as usual.

All I'm going to say is the Bo is really, -really- lucky his hat didn't touch that official. And you bring up the 2010 night in TX, that was bad.

As for the motivation, looks say a lot and perception is reality, and it really does look like Bo is losing his sh-- on his players. Do people like Brian Kelly , Dantonio and Saban as well? Sure, but there comes a point where I think Bo has to know better. Whether it's truly a bias towards him and program or whatever, he has to know that and not feed the beast. Especially after this long as a head coach.
You are right polo. aTm was bad.

We had 16 penalties and they only had 2.

The captain and leader of the team broke a very strict rule about cell phones in locker rooms.

The cameras followed his every move and even had split screens of him during action, during plays.

It was bad....but Bo has shown he's a good coach and a regular guy who graduates and cares for his players.

Don't forget we had a player get penalized for defending himself after getting sexually assaulted.

Add in the one two weeks prior when one got penalized from saving our back from being beheaded- AFTER THE PLAY.
