I wanted to ask your opinion on a different shift that is going on in politics and get your thoughts.   There is a marked shift in Hispanic’s towards the GOP since 2002 and really so since 2012.   Especially amongst younger Hispanics.   At the same time, the GOP “talk” has been much tougher on immigration so one would think, based on what Democrats tell us, the Hispanics would move Left.    But they aren’t.   Your thoughts??

For what’s it worth, I asked a close person at work who’s significant other is from Venezuela what that person thought and is very much in favor of a tougher stance on immigration and is not happy with the current situation.  I found that interesting and asked why.    I was told because the significant other went through things the correct way which was a hard and now is upset that so many others just show up and get released into the US without any real term consequences.  
 

I’ve always felt harder line immigration was a winning talking point with Hispanics and it seems it’s playing out that way.

It's not that easy to read the tea leaves. Young Hispanics haven't exactly moved right. Like young non-Hispanics they tend to support Democrat candidates and progressive causes, including abortion, DACA, the inflation reduction act, etc. Older Hispanics are represented by a lot of devout Catholics, and tend to side with Republicans on culture wars alone, moreso in the last 20 years as the culture wars have been amped up for that purpose. Neither is the block each party wants them to be. 

If your anecdotal evidence suggests many Hispanics actually support harder line immigration on Hispanics -- that tracks, too. There are folks of all stripes who believe themselves to be the hard working beneficiaries of the American dream, and see newcomers as latecomers, cheaters, and perhaps threats to their livelihood. There are also people of all stripes who admit the current system is wildly over-stressed and in need of better controls. Your friend from Venezuela may look at Mexican immigrants in a very different light than fellow South Americans. In my community, first wave Mexican immigrants don't necessarily sympathize with the recent arrivals from Guatemala. And let's not forget 1930s California, where new arrivals from the white dustbowl midwest were shunned and exploited and by the white midwesterners who happened to get there first. 

My guess is that a lot of Hispanic immigrants who did things the right way in previous generations were not escaping the political and cartel violence that has created the recent immigration waves. It's a mess. Haven't heard anyone with a simple executable solution. 

Donald Trump has certainly presented one, but if the biggest deportation in U.S. history -- 10 million Hispanics -- sounds chock full of dangerous and unintended consequences for all, it would only pander to Hispanics who are as cruel and blind as their fellow white extremists.

Thanks for your feedback.    On this one, NBC news had recent polling that Hispanics under 50 (not sure why that is the cutoff) prefer Harris by only 5% and Hispanics OVER 50 prefer Harris by 57%

Hispanic Catholics prefer Harris by 20 points but Protestant Hispanics favor Trump by over 20 points.  Weird dynamic there.

It appears there is a solid chunk of Americans that also support insane causes.  I thought it was just lame college students that can't get girls but it turns out it is adults too.

I honestly think I could run for office and win...without actually letting anyone know what plans I had.
