CFB Selection Committee Rankings (Updated 11/11)

Ok this topic needed its own thread. This playoff committee is a joke dropping us 3 spots for not even playing and moving 7 2 loss teams ahead of us in the top 15. What a joke these people are. I'm exploding. I'm going to review it all but its seriously messed up!!!

Agreed it. Took all of three week before the nation goes ballistic. Ucla did nothing to move up to 11th.

UCLA obliterated ASU and beat Arizona while losing to Oregon and Utah. Pretty good resume.

they also had close calls with Virginia (a mediocre team), texas (a bad team), and Colorado (a terrible team). Meanwhile, FSU has been punished for its' close calls.

This is what makes me think the Committee isn't putting a lot of weight into margin of victory. UCLA has two "good" losses (#2 Oregon and #23 Utah) and two "good" wins (#6 Arizona State and #14 Arizona) but they've looked pretty average in several other wins - Virginia by 8, Memphis by 7, Texas by 3, Cal by 2, Colorado by 3 in 2OT. But they seem to be getting credit for winning those games, regardless of the score.

It's obvious we're getting kinda screwed, but I really don't care. Just win the damn games and win the B1G and it'll all work out. I'm disappointed we slid down, but there is nothing we can do about it, but win.

How about CFP #15 Georgia (7-2)? They moved up 5 spots after beating 5-5 Kentucky last weekend.

Their "big" win came in week one against CFP #19 Clemson. Georgia has since lost to 4-5 South Carolina and were blown out by 5-3 Florida- itself blown out by a Missouri team that managed only 119 total yards of offense.

No idea why Georgia seems to be so out of whack with the other resumes. Their only win against a currently-ranked team (#19 Clemson) was the first game of the year and they lost to a below .500 team and go rolled by Florida.

If we beat Wisconsin, and Miami beats FSU, do we move up to #7 or 8 then?

I mean, and Nebraska beat Rutgers and Ray Rice used to be on that team.

Everyone really needs to calm down. Except for the players, it would be nice if they came out with some fire.

Really good question here. Does all this movement on "bye" weeks give anyone the impression that not playing in a Conference championship and having a "bye" should or could hurt a B12 school?

It should hurt them, yes. Whether or not it will; I have no idea.

I don't think it will "hurt" in and of itself - I think they're going to look at total resume. The only thing that "hurts" is one less chance to beat a ranked team.

However, since the Big XII is the only Power 5 without one, it will be interesting to see what they do if both Baylor and TCU win out. They said conference champions will be given extra weight and Baylor would be the champion in that case. Considering two teams currently ahead of Baylor HAVE to lose yet, it's entirely possibly that it could be TCU vs. Baylor for the fourth spot.

I'm fine with the ranking, you guys are right, we haven't really beat anyone. But my problem with the whole thing is why did the committee move us up to 13 after we beat Purdue, only to drop us back like this. Keep us at 15-16 the whole time, it makes no sense to drop us at this time.

It's fluid, but I think they were giving us the benefit of the doubt for the loss at MSU. At that time, the perception was they were one of the premier teams in the nation. Now it looks like they are just a good team, not anything special. That hurt us some.

Our "good" loss doesn't like as good anymore combined with not having any big wins yet was the cause. Good news is that if we win we can climb the poll pretty fast.

Give me a break man. I'm not talking about us beating Georgia 6 years ago. The current Georgia team has many returning players from the team we just beat. Plus, as others have stated, Georgia got killed by Florida just 2 weeks ago. Does that mean that Florida is considerably better than MSU? Essentially by moving us down, the committee is saying that OSU is the only Big Ten team that really has a chance of sliding into a playoff spot (assuming they win out and some other teams lose). With us being slotted behind so many 2-loss teams, if we would win out and beat OSU, climbing 12 spots in a few weeks seems implausible.

I understand that we just need to keep winning, but for the sake of those that like to see rational analysis, its ok to point out the flaws in the results of the CFP rankings.

I think they are factoring in wins the most. We don't have any good ones right now, which is hurting us. You could make an argument for us being ahead of Georgia right now, but it's arguing over 15 or 16. Doesn't seem worth the time.

Georgia has beaten #19 Clemson and a 7-2 Mizzou. We've beaten a 6-3 Miami. They've lost 2 games, we've lost 1. It's close. If we keep winning we'll pass these 2 loss teams.

I don't think very many people think one of the biggest flaws in the poll or committee is where Nebraska is slotted.

It's clearly a matter of trust..... Nebraska gets no respect until it shows up in a big game. Right now, the committee does not trust this team. They know the history. They watch the same games we do. You know Dr. Tom watches us.

The bottom line is, the Huskers can't be trusted until they win that big road game.

I hope the players feel a little bit slighted by it and it motivates them a little bit more.

This isn't a "calm down" situation or anything like that. This is simply good discussion about trying to understand the mind of the committee using NU as the backdrop. There doesn't appear to be a legitimate objective reason for why NU was moved down 3 spots after many that were ahead the previous week were either beaten this past Saturday, or beat a team that isn't much better than being on a bye. Uneven analysis on a week to week basis? I think most of us would just be interested in understanding how NU's ranking discrepancy happened. I don't read many posters melting down or claiming were necessarily better than the teams ahead of us.
