CFN 2017 Pre-Spring Rankings: #24 Nebraska

Hopefully Tanner Lee is the real deal and does not produce a 12 td 14 int season or anything similar to it. All qbs throw picks, but some of the picks we have thrown in the past seem to be timely picks that can swing a game ie throwing a pick in the redzone. I want and expect him to have better than a 2:1 TD to int ratio if we want to win the conference this season. Something like 40 touchdowns to 13 ints or something like that would be big for us down the road. He to be consistent as others have said and I want him to do well and lead this team and fight through adversity. If a D lineman sacks him, I would not mind it if he gets in the O-linemen's face and tells him to block for him, I feel that kind of leadership has been missing from the QB position.

We will all find out more about him in the spring so buckle up.

Could not agree more, if the oline has a good game the announcers always say the qb takes em out to eat or something like that. We have been missing that nasty oline to take over the game when the team is struggling. Usually the qb or wideouts have to take over the game to help us win. If we want to be a championship caliber team we need great leadership and an o-line that wants to put a game on their back and win it. Basically what they did against Illinois and some of the lower level teams is what they need for every game.

Seems like this has been stated, but I hesitant to put so much of the success/failure of next year on Lee. If the O-line can't keep him clean and upright it's not going to matter. I've been a big proponent of the offensive line this upcoming year and believe they will be vastly improved. That being said, doesn't sound like Farniok is quick where they want him to be yet, but has a whole off season yet to get closer. The slew of sophomores also seems to be falling behind (Barnett, Gaylord, Decker). At least one of those needs to have a big off season and provide a bit more. Seems likes Decker might be the choice there.

The other piece is the skill positions. We have some talent yes, but a huge amount of unknown factors. You could have Lee be great, the offensive line very good and still struggle if we don't have sure hands outside of Morgan or a running back who can get it done.

Lee is the obvious starting point, but my eyes will probably be watching elsewhere when spring ball hits to see if his talent level will even be able to shine through.

It is important to note, a quarterbacks production is often times directly tied to the parts around him. Urban Meyer said it over and over in 2014 when they won the playoff. 100% agree with what you are saying.

If Lee is capable of really understanding the offense and is able to make pre snap reads (something I feel Tommy Armstrong was unable to do) then I think he will be able help the O line out a ton. A guy can avoid a lot of hits/sacks if he is able to read a defense and get the ball out quick
