ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Chan Gailey's second chance to prove himself as an NFL head coach comes with plenty of challenges.

The Buffalo Bills team he's taking over hasn't made the playoffs in a decade and its fans have been clamoring for Bill Cowher during a coaching search that seemed to take forever.

Chan Gailey has got some work to do to get the Bills back into playoff contention -- from settling on a quarterback to winning over an increasingly skeptical fan base.

Instead of landing one of the big-name coaches with loaded résumés such as Cowher or Mike Shanahan, Gailey -- who coached the Dallas Cowboys for two less-than-inspiring seasons -- was introduced Tuesday as the 15th head coach in Bills history -- and fifth in 10 years.

"I can't say anything to change anybody's mind. All I can do is go try to help us win football games," Gailey said. "We win football games, everybody's minds will be changed, right?"

I was listening to ESPN radio today, and they reported that a lot of previous coaches turned down the job. I agree, Buffalo is a train wreck.

Yeah, you know you have problems when candidates, who would normally jump at a chance to get in the "big boy" chair, are running away like it's a leper colony.

I wonder too if some of the people contacted for the job didn't want to have the headache, known as Terrell Owens, shortening their coaching career and their sanity.

My niece and her husband live in western, NY and are HUGE Bills fans. Needless to say I've had a lot of fun with them, over their pain, while on Facebook.

My nieces husband said Ralph Wilson is the east coast version of Al Davis. I said that was a little strong. His reply was "You're right, I just insulted Al Davis" :laughpound

I wonder how many guesses it would have taken even the most knowledgeable football fan to come up with this hire?

Jerry Jones acknowledges that firing chan was a mistake. 2 seasons. 2 playoff appearances.

He was relieved as O co-ordinator in KC because of ideological differences, not because he sucked as a coach. I see this as a good hire for buffalo.
