Chargers Coaching Vacancy

I was waiting for this thread to pop up once Schottenheimer was fired. I still think BC will coach in the NFL if given the right opportunity. Don't ask me why, but I feel he has some unfinished business there. Right now I just don't think too many NFL teams are going to give a college coach a chance with a, what 22-15 record. If next year goes better, I expect to hear his name mentioned more after NFL openings occur.

It's widely said that San Diego is the most 'tallented' team in the NFL... I don't know if there could be a much better opportunity :)

that would suck to lose cally... though I wouldnt mid getting turning around and getting marty(not that he would come here)

I just don't think the Chargers will give him that opportunity. He was 9 deep on that list (If it is any kind of order of importance) and there were many names ahead of him that have never been a head coach and I think would jump at the opportunity. I think there has to be many people turn down the job before he gets strong consideration and I don't see too many people turning that job down.

I look for Norv Turner of the 49ers to get a look before BC gets one. Though Turner wants complete control of his coaching staff, and that is not something that the Chargers would give to a head coach.

I dont think we have to worry about Cally leaving this year. Although I'm sure there are some people out there would would gladly volunteer to drive him to Lincoln Airport. Next year I could see him being talked about for open coaching positions, though.

We need him to stick around if for no other reason than we are on the brink of turning the corner on the top programs in the country and starting a new system would not be in the Huskers best interest.

I believe that BC believes in his system so much that he will want to prove it is a championship system and will stick it out to prove it. Besides until he wins a championship what has he really done. His best year is still not as good as TO's worst year, and I am not saying that as a knock to BC. I really believe that in the next year or so we will be amazed at what this offense can put up as far as numbers and wins. After they do that I would be a little more nervous about him wanting to prove it can work in the pros

Let's not kid ourselves here. I like BC and think he has done some great things here, but what did he really accomplish since being away from Oakland to land him another shot in the NFL? Once he starts banging out some trophies or getting us to the next level, THEN I say we maybe losing him. As for now...Nope won't happen.

Lets not forget the stigma attatched to him when he left the Raiders, GM's and owners would be very leary of bringing him back to the NFL.
