Cincinnati: What Did We Learn?

the fans were huge and i hope they bring that energy back to lincoln, and its always exciting when your quarterback completes 80% of his throws and looks comfortable and confident

look, i'm nervous as hell about our defense getting zero pressure and opening huge run lanes, the rb room behind emmett showed absolutely nothing, we came out flat in the 3rd with all the momentum and the ball, and Rhule still makes some serious WTH game management decisions

but also

we've got receivers that can win matchups, our punter pinned two coffin corners, we didn't miss any kicks or field goals (one from 50+), no turnovers and won the turnover margin, only 3 penalties, we effectively moved the ball on the ground and through the air, and not only did we win our second one score game in a row, we won our first game against a P4 non-con team outside of Lincoln since 2010 and not that long ago we were losing to Georgia Southern and Northern Iowa at home

Special Teams are now better.

DL has a LONG WAY TO GO, if we want to compete with B1G

No depth at RB

WR is better

OL, I think better??

DH needs to find his way in play calling.
i think it has a lot to do with rhule being conservative and wanting to keep the defense off the field with long methodical drives. i would like to see the offense play more up tempo and take some shots down field but i dont see rhule doing that.

The Special teams wasn't perfect, but they were way better than they have been. Nice to make a long FG and Archie pinned them inside the 10 a couple times.

The defense is going to be a problem. Couldn't generate any pressure and they were just running the ball right down our throat. We are missing the big boys up front. The secondary was decent. Their receivers didn't do the QB any favors though. Hartzog comes up with the big INT to save the day!

Got to get a lot better on offense if we want to win. Johnson was okay, but there is no depth behind him right now. Mozee and Nelson both didn't look ready with their limited opportunities. Play calling was really conservative don't know if that was by design or not, but they got to open it up more going forward. Pritchett really struggled and cost us points. Really liked what I saw from the transfer WRs Key and Hunter played well. Dylan was solid. Got lucky that one ball didn't get picked, but overall wasn't bad.

This was not a pretty game. You take the win always, but you have so much you have to work on.

Barely won this game. We needed a 54 yard field goal, a dropped pick 6, the game to not be in cincy for the crowd to cause false starts and no punting mishaps and we got them. I would be absolutely devastated at a loss, but I am much less optimistic about the season now.
Mmmk Scott Frost. How many years have we been on the wrong end of that!? Let’s just freaking wait and see. It was game one. It wasn’t like we were playing a nobody.
