Coach Elmo Comment about Freshmen

Here's a comment that pisses me off:

About Anthony Blue: “His focus is like none other I’ve seen in a true freshman… He’s at a point now, if we have an injury we’ll play him… Woody Hayes said for every (freshman) you start you’ll lose a game and I think it’s true. We don’t like to play them.”

This is stupid. If they can play, let them play. Pete Carrol has never been afraid to put a true freshman into tough situations. Obviously, he believes there's nothing as valuable to a player's development as actual PT.

I don't like this philosophy one bit.

:madash PLAY THE BEST ATHLETES. Fu@k senority. There is something to say about experience, but you have to play to get experience.

That's is a good idea, use the same philosophy from a coach 50 years ago on Freshman. I am sure freshman's bodies haven't changed much and they aren't coming in more ready and more talented. :sarcasm

If I was a recruit I would go to another school if I heard that. After a redshirt year I would want to play, especially if I was good enough.

That is exactly what I thought too. As it was stated above, USC seems to have no problem playing multiple freshman at one time on the field and they do pretty good.

And you wonder why Pete Carrol can get 5-star RBs year after year. They know they have a chance to play right away.

These recruits are pretty sophisticated nowadays. They'll look at a program's habits, such as whether it plays freshmen. And it probably does have an impact on their final decision.

I can't stand such backwards, dated thinking.

Simply unbelievable. If Washington or Lawrence or any younger guy can do better than the one out there, get them on the damn field then. This is inexcusable in my opinion.

:madash PLAY THE BEST ATHLETES.... you have to play to get experience.

That's what OU does....... seems to have worked pretty well for Stoops.

Nebraska needs some young blood on the field; as it stands, next year will be an inexperienced D with how the substitution pattern has been going so far...

Blue & Thenarse should be seeing action in crunch time, if at all possible. Same goes for LB's..... only one back is Dillard.
