Coaching Carousal 2025 Version

Fickel is in deep trouble. I watched a fair amount of that game since Maryland is an upcoming opponent- Wisconsin, @ this time, is unwatcheably bad. Their QB play is just terrible. Glad NU dodged the Fickel bullet (one that I thought could have been a pick for NU based on his time @ Cincinnati).

GO BIG RED!!!!!!!!!
The product on the field looked bad, but I also noticed the stadium looked fairly empty too. That will just be another thing to add to list of reasons to let him go.

They have a pretty lame FB fanbase. Students especially. They show up way late and leave after "Jump Around", so a few bad seasons will only make that worse.

He is also 64 years old...I think his son is a CFB coach some place. Might as well coach at IU for a few more years, bring your son on staff and pass it off to him.

That is what I do if I am Cig.

I coach 3 more seasons at IU, win another 25+ games, "retire" and make sure my kid gets the job. So that he can sign a fat 6 year contract at 8 million a year.

IU fans, while horrible when it comes to basketball, are probably pretty amazing when it comes to football. Considering they have averaged only 4 wins a year over the last 30 years. They will be happy with anything that doesn't look like the past.
I had no idea that he was that old. He looks much younger than 64.

Based on a quick Google search, he is paid 8M/yr with an annual 1M retention bonus & his contract runs through 2032.

Yeah, his age is a bit of a factor...5-10 more years tops...

So he might just want to stay at IU where there is no pressure at all.

Now..if UF offers him 11 million a year, that might be really hard to turn down.

I will be curious to see how the Cignetti thing plays out- He signed a huge contract for a number of years @ IU. I thought @ the time that there was no way any team would be able poach him without ponying up a huge buy out.

However, it will largely be up to him- someone will be willing to do the buy out- Clemson, Florida, Michigan when they figure out that Moore is not Jim Harbaugh or Lloyd Carr, et al. If he thinks he can build IU into a perennial winner, he will stay. Once he gets a look @ the FSU's etc hitting his good players with giant NIL deals that IU certainly won't match, maybe he'll begin to think different. His JMU players have been loyal, the ones that come after and see $$$ @ other programs may not be so.

GO BIG RED!!!!!!!!!!!!!
