Colorado. What should NU be concerned about?

We all know CU had had a awful year. They did beat up on a battered Iowa State team in the battle of who brought the bigger pillow on Saturday. In that game they had 200 yards passing and 236 yards rushing and the offensive line gave up one sack. Not a bad day, but Iowa State might be playing just as bad now as Colorado has pretty much all year.

Offensively speaking, CU has at times had a even mix of the run and the pass. In some games, however, they were pretty run heavy. They ran it 70% of the time against KSU and 63% of the time against OU. To give a better idea on how good CU is offensively, Mason Crosby leads the team in points scored. Not by a few, by 23 (before Iowa State where he kicked, I believe, 4 field goals).

Defensively, a guy who jumps out right away is DE Abraham Wright. He has 11.5 sacks this year. On the season they have 22 sacks. NU has 21 this year.

Have you watched any CU games? What do you think the Huskers need to do to put away the Buffs in Lincoln?

NU just needs to play their game. A balanced attack using BJax on the ground, and ZT to Mo ALL DAY LONG. CU doesn't have anyone who can defend him. Mainly, they need to use the undefinable factor of MOMENTUM to carry them through. Regardless, Callahan needs to keep the heat on. Don't go up by 2 TDs, then go conservative.

 
IMO Bernard Jackson (CU's QB) is not a very good passer to begin with, and it seems like he throws quite a few INT's under pressure. His strength is in scrambling, and since he can't throw it well, he tends to scramble often. They still have Hugh Charles from last year as their speedy RB, and then a guy from Wayne State who is a bigger running back. I don't think they have much for TE's as their two good ones from last year are in the pros now.

Defensively, I think they are close to decent. I think they have a pretty good LB corps led by Jordan Dizon.

Their best player, as far as prospective pro talent goes, is their kicker Mason Crosby. My friend says he has kicked 75 yarders in practice.....probably with the wind and no line in front of him, but nonetheless, not too shabby.

I really hope we blow these guys out...looks like it'll be my first husker game that I'll be able to attend since watching them play CU in '01.....ahhh the memories

 
Jackson is the one player that scares me on Colorado's offense. He is not a great passer but he is very athletic and our defense has trouble with those types of quarterbacks. I don't think there is any way that their defense can consistantly shut down our offense unless we shoot ourselves in the foot with penalties and turnovers. All four backs should get carries and Zac should get his standing ovation midway through the third as Joe Ganz trouts on the field to replace him.

 
NU can't take this game lightly...........sCUm will be ready to play and will want this game badly so we will have to just take it to them all game long. We have way more talent then they have IMO and we should win this game, but having said that the 2nd half of the game gives me a heart attack every Saturday!!!!!

 
This could easily be a tough game, I hope we are ready for it and focused. Colorado has nothing to lose in this game. It's like their bowl game...and we all know they'd love nothing more than to beat Nebraska.

We're a far superior team to them, but then again Texas is a far superior team to Kstate, and look what happened last night. I'm glad it's a home game, because I'd bet anything Colorado plays us much closer than a lot of people are expecting.

 
It seems their D is their strength. Sure they beat up on a disheartened and defeated-before-taking-the-field ISU team. They've kept other offenses scores below 30 in their losses.

If we go in overconfident and not mentally focused, we could be in for a long day. Hopefully that won;t happen.

If we mix it up well, and actually SCORE in the 3rd quarter, and finish up tackles, we should win pretty easily. Rattling their QB with noise would help. :box

With the recent loss to OSU I doubt the kids would take anyone for granted, or at least I hope not.

 
CU has got killed by anyone who can run a balanced attack. The games they ahev played close, or won, the teams were almost completly 1 dimensional.

After watching most of the CU games this year, I think your assesment is right on other than I would rate there defense a little better than decent. I would add that the CU views their season as salvagable if they can just be us. As someone else wrote, this is their bowl game.

One thing that the coaching staff has done really well this year is have the team prepared for each game (see our first quarter scoring). So I wouldn't expect a flat effort coming out against CU. I think we've got enough pride on this team to not overlook CU.

We have a big advantage talent-wise, so this game is going to come down to execution and eliminating mistakes. I hate to use this term, but it should serve as a good "tune up" for the Big 12 Championship. What I mean is that the team should use this opportunity to run the full package, and focus on executing for FOUR quarters.

I'd also love to see Thenarse, Wilson, and Culbert get more PT. Shanle is really struggling, and even though he's a senior, we need to get the kids some time to get more comfortable.

Execution and intensity over four quarters. That should be the goal for the CU game.
