Commitment Videos

This topic has been discussed in various threads and some people don't like them.

I guess I have a little different take on them.

Sure, it can show an "all about me" attitude with the recruits which I probably don't like. However, it's no different really than a hat ceremony...etc.

But, here is my other take. Look at how much advertising and exposure Nebraska got from Jackson's video? It's still circulating around the internet and everyone that watches it....sees the HUSKERS!!!!. This becomes even more important when we want to keep building our pipeline from California. He was a very high recruit out of that state and there were a lot of underclassmen watching that video.

Like I said in another thread, the biggest part I don't like is when a company like Bleacher Report talks them into not releasing it till a couple days before signing day. That puts some schools in a bind with little chance to find another recruit.

I had no problem with Jackson's or Fitzpatrick's video, but the kid who pulled a bus or whatever was pretty self absorbed. At least the other two included people in their life.

This doesn't have anything to do with it. The coaches know in advance unless the player chooses to be uncommunicative. Coaches knowing is probably why Huskers backed off WR and DB prospects in the final week. Of course we know how that went.

Bleacher Report approached these players last summer to produce the videos. The timing of the release seems primarily about promoting BR. The athletes and schools get some exposure in the process, I guess. Signing Day is a big media event, and as a media company they're doing similar stuff as for example, ESPN with the hat ceremonies.
