Conference Comparison Against OOC Power 5 Opponents

It's been asked several times how conference record compares against Power Five teams and how many of those games are played.

I think I'll break this down into several posts so I don't screw something up and delete it before I'm done.

I'll list teams in the order of the current conference standings and what teams they play out of conference, including games still to come. Let me know if I miss any.

SEC - West

Mississippi State - None

Alabama - Beat West Virginia 33-23

Auburn - Beat Kansas State 20-14

Mississippi - None

LSU - Beat Wisconsin 28-24

Texas A&M - None

Arkansas - Beat Texas Tech 49-28

SEC - East

Missouri - Lost to Indiana 31-27

Georgia - Beat Clemson 45-21; Lost to Georgia Tech 30-24

Florida - Lost to Florida State 24-19

Kentucky - Lost to Louisville 44-40

South Carolina - Lost to Clemson 35-17

Tennessee - Lost to Oklahoma 34-10

Vanderbilt - None

5-6. Side note: 5 of the 11 games are traditional rivals that play every year.

Boise St. isn't a Power 5 team. I think Cincinnati was a Power 5 team when Ohio State scheduled them.

I know they are not a power 5 team. I'm saying that even though they aren't, Ole Miss should get similar credit for scheduling and playing them rather than just having a hard cutoff and ignoring this game.

I know they are not a power 5 team. I'm saying that even though they aren't, Ole Miss should get similar credit for scheduling and playing them rather than just having a hard cutoff and ignoring this game.

A couple years ago, probably. But they aren't the same team they used to be. You could make a better case for East Carolina and Colorado State this year.

Good point on the number of teams. I also noted above that the Pac-12 and Big XII play 9 conference games so they only have three OOC games each year compared to four for the other conferences.
