Vikings | K. Cosgrove potential linebackers coach

Fri, 6 Jan 2006 20:26:28 -0800

Judd Zulgad and Mark Craig, of the Star-Tribune, reports Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress might hire University of Nebraska defensive coordinator Kevin Cosgrove to serve as the team's linebackers coach.

Sean Callahan said that Cosgrove isn't going anywhere, FWIW.

I don't really think that going from being DC of a major college to being LB coach at a struggling NFL team is really a step up anyway.

i don't see Cos going, either.

he's here 'cause Bill is here. he took the job at Bill's request because they're friends that go way back.

and Cos doesn't strike me as the type to leave a friend hangin' high and dry.

even if we do not like the guy, the defense did improve. was that due to his leadership or the position coaches? what this defense does need is stability within the coaching ranks. if coz was to leave then that would make 4 different DC's in 5 years.

but i wouldnt fault anyone for trying to move into the next level if that is his goal but if it was i would think that he would have had the opportunity long before now.

Coz can't go I love that guy

He just looks mean :steam while coaching, other than that I'm basing my approval off of nothing

After doing some more checking I am of the assumption Cosgrove is not going to the Vikes. The source quoted appears to be naming just about every coach in the country to be joining the Viking's staff the in the last 24 hours.

Thats good news. Cos is getting the talent to put a lock down defense on the feild next year. With the right talent out there, we should be awesome on D.

This is from today's Minneapolis Star Tribune. Apparently this rumor still has legs:

University of Nebraska defensive coordinator Kevin Cosgrove as linebackers coach. Cosgrove, 50, supposedly is torn between staying in Nebraska and accepting his first NFL position, which could possibly double his current salary of $200,000. Cosgrove has coached college football for 26 seasons, the past two at Nebraska. He was defensive coordinator at the University of Wisconsin for nine seasons before going to Nebraska. He and Childress worked together on Barry Alvarez's Badgers staff.

double the salary according to this article would be one good reason.

How many of you would switch Jobs if the offer was

Double the Pay

Less Work

Less Pressure

Lets be realistic. Cos has to be considering it.

I hope he stays but would understand if he left.

I have a feeling that he will take this job...makes me wonder ahead of time who else to bring in.
and i have the opposite. i'm thinking he's gonna stay.

again, gut feeling. i'm thinking that he wants to see how this defense develops.
