Some numbers from NCAA.org for Coz's last 4 seasons with Wisc.

2000- 8-4, #34PPG with 20.4. #79YPG with 391.75

2001- 5-7, #81PPG with 28.8. #58YPG with 370.92

2002- 7-6, #38PPG with 23. #63YPG with 372.93

2003- 7-6, #50PPG with 23.5. #43YPG with 355.

Speaks of average everywhere, not just the defense. We wont know for sure if this is the best he can do or not til we get some of the younger players up and running. Everyone thought McBride was worthless and the heel til the mid 90s also. Wait and see for now.

Can you just imagine if we would of had the internet back when McBride and Osborne first started coaching at Nebraska??!!!! Oh the anti, "FIRE Osborne and take that no good SOB McBride with ya" posts would be off the charts....Oh the horror......the horror.....the horror........the horror (sorry I love that movie!)

Sure Osborne had some - can’t beat Oklahoma - years, but Osborne was the Offensive coordinator/assistant head coach on back-to-back national championship teams in `70 & `71. He never (NEVER) lost more than 3 games in a season (for 25 straight years), and never (NEVER) won fewer than 9 games in a year (for 25 straight years). There may have been a few malcontents who weren’t happy about not winning a national title from `71 - `94, but only absolute A-holes were calling for his head.

And for trying to equate Coz’s early years as D-coordinator at NU to McBride don’t forget the following. McBride became defensive coordinator in 1982. His teams ranked in the top 10 in the NCAA in total defense for 7 straight years from 1984-1990. Over his entire tenure at Nebraska his defenses gave up an average of 14.1 points and under 280 yards per game and led the conference (that’s right LED the conference) seven times. In two years he had success and sustained it. How much time does Coz get? When comparing Coz to somebody, next time be fair and try to pick someone in his league. Comparing him to McBride just makes him look worse than he already does.

Also, on a side note, McBride’s defensive numbers could have been even more impressive, but the Husker offenses scored so many points that he was into his three and four deep players early in the second half of many, many games.
