Easily my favorite Husker LB of all time. He just made opposing offenses look silly...

I don't know if that's so much the case as Dailey just wasn't the right QB for Callahan's offense when Billy came on board. Admittedly, I think both did about as good as they could manage considering the situation.

 
Anyone remember QB Mickey Joseph? He was a hot option QB prospect recruited from Louisiana in the 80s I believe.

 
How about Zack Bowman? He couldn't stay on the field as a Husker and he also played here a few years too early. Imagine what a healthy Bowman would have done in Pelini's defense...

Of course Thunder Collins is in this thread. The thing about Thunder is his name. There were tons of article hyping him when he signed with NU. But if he had been named Fred Collins would we even remember him? If his name was Fred then probably his only newspaper article would have been when he was sentenced for murder.

Other than being fast, I don't really remember anything even remotely impressive about Thunder Collins. He was too slight of build to ever be a running back for Nebraska. They should have used him as a WR or something because he was never going to cut it at RB.

Bowman's injuries were heartbreaking & IMO crushing blows to our defense at the time. He would've been the heart & soul of our D if he would've been able to stay healthy. Bowman was something to behold out on the field.

 
This may shock some but how about Ahmen Green? I think he just left too soon, if he had stayed the Heisman and first pick were there for the taking.

Same could be said for Lawrence Phillips too, minus his off-the-field behavior.

 
At the same time, both of these guys led us to national titles. They're more been-there-done-that than coulda-woulda-shoulda....although I see what you're saying when you bring the possibility of the Heisman into the convo.

 
I want to say Andre Jones, but mostly because of his trash-talking of USC before they whipped us.

Though it's not his fault, we could have had Barry Sanders instead of Terry Rodgers. Coming out of high school Rodgers was ranked as as one of the best prospects while Sanders was thought to be too small.
