Couple of Suh articles

FYI, the first article mentions an NFL referee by the name of Clete Blakeman. Some of you might not be aware of him, but he played QB at Nebraska from '83-'87, with the majority of his playing time occurring in '86 & '87 as a backup to Steve Taylor.

Kind of funny that Suh was originally called for a face mask penalty when he sacked Vick, but Mr. Blakeman reversed the call upon further review. Also, Mr. Blakeman used to be a Big 12 official before being promoted to the NFL.

Clete Blakeman runs his own law practice in Omaha during the week when he's not officiating on the weekends.

1. A man named Suh: On one play in Sunday's 35-32 loss to the Eagles, Suh drove an offensive lineman into the pocket, grabbed Vick and twisted him to the turf for a sack.
An official -- born, bred, trained and brain-washed by the NFL hierarchy to keep quarterbacks from getting a speck of dirt on their uniforms -- threw a flag for grabbing the face mask.

No human could make that play, right?

Wrong. Suh had not grabbed Vick by the face mask. After a brief conference, referee Clete Blakeman picked up the flag. The sack counted.

Suh is so good so early in his career that it is easy to forget he is a rookie. He even lines up at left end on some formations.

The fans chant his name the way they used to chant Bubba Baker's four decades ago.

Using the statistics given out at the end of each game (they're subject to change after official review), Suh has two sacks, three tackles for losses and three quarterback hits.

The Lions have 10 sacks, tied with Green Bay for the league lead. Last year, they had 26 for the full season and ranked 29th.

Suh's dominating presence inside and Kyle Vanden Bosch's relentless drive at right end have transformed the defensive line into a quarterback-terrorizing force.

Just wait until Suh gets some experience -- and the defense has at least one cornerback who makes a quarterback pump the ball and hold it an extra half second.

Defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has fought off double teams, led the Lions with eight tackles Sunday against Philadelphia and already has two sacks.
And here's the scary part: Lions coach Jim Schwartz thinks his rookie is just beginning to show his potential.

"He can still play better," Schwartz said Monday. "There's still plays in there that he can do better. He had a lot of tackles in this game. He got good pressure on the quarterback and had some good, physical plays.

"But I think we're just seeing the surface scratched with him, and that sounds a little funny to say when he's had a sack in his first two games."

Entering Monday night's game, Suh was tied for 10th in the NFL with two sacks and was the sack leader among defensive tackles.

"He has a couple sacks ... (and for) defensive tackles, it's hard to get sacks," Schwartz said. "That's tough billing to live up to. But if someone had tough billing to live up to, it's him. He came in with a lot of accolades, and we drafted him high. He's pleased us in that regard."

Fellow defensive tackle Corey Williams also has taken notice of his young teammate's ability.

"Yeah, definitely," Williams said. "He's a great player. He's been getting sacks and tackles and stuff like that, and he's just beginning. He's got a lot more he can do."

I've watched him play in a couple of his games and its amazing the physical prowess he shows in only his first season. makes me wish he was only a junior last year so I could watch him woop on texas again.

I was at the game this Sunday. The fans have definitely picked up on the SUHHHHHHHHHHHHHH chant.

Ford Field is amazing.

I still love the fact that both Todd McShay and Mike Maycock picked Gerald McCoy over Suh as far as having more of a long lasting impact in the NFL.

Todd McShay on Gerald McCoy:

"Gerald McCoy's a difference-maker," McShay said of the two-time All-American. "To be honest with you, I've had McCoy one spot ahead of Suh just about the entire season. I think toward the end I flip-flopped 'em because Suh just finished so strong. But I don't think there's a big difference between them in terms of value. I think there's a difference in terms of the way they play however."

I know it's tremendously early but so far in tackles:

142. Ndamukong Suh TOT 9 SOLO 7 ASST 2 SCK 2.0 FF 0

302. Gerald McCoy TOT 5 SOLO 4 ASST 1 SCK 0.0 FF 1

I haven't paid attention to whether they're double-teaming McCoy much. I know Suh is getting doubled about 2/3 of the time so far.
