This one is on the center. He had the down block and did not get there on time.
Having the center block the defensive end seems like asking a lot.

Don't disagree - just looking at that assignment. The center didn't block down, which took the pulling left guard completely out of the play.Having the center block the defensive end seems like asking a lot.

And if the guard blocks him there are 2-3 other guys who are still unblocked waiting for Newby.
Pulling guard was supposed to block that guy on that one.
The more I look at these films, the guards are killing me. Right guard completely whiffs on a guy to go downfield and block someone downfield....whaaaa?!?
Actually, the offense had numbers on this play. Five down on the D, no blitzers. And if the guard blocks him there are 2-3 other guys who are still unblocked waiting for Newby.

7 guys to block 8 is not a formula for success. Especially with no misdirection and slow developing plays.
Actually, the right guard makes a good block and ends up with his guy on the ground. Now, the pulling center, why would he side step the DE who was obviously trying to make the tackle and avoid any contact? If he makes that block, the play goes a long ways.....probably.The more I look at these films, the guards are killing me. This looks to me like these guys just don't know assignment football in this offense.
EDIT - Another play where the center blocks absolutely nobody as well.
Again, not saying that this isn't coaching. It's obvious these guys don't know who they're supposed to be blocking, LOL...
You could also look at this as the backs are just getting ahead of their blockers....
So the two LBs and the safety walked down couldn't make the tackle?Actually, the offense had numbers on this play. Five down on the D, no blitzers. And if the guard blocks him there are 2-3 other guys who are still unblocked waiting for Newby.

I don't see a safety or an LB that doesn't have a blocker on them.So the two LBs and the safety walked down couldn't make the tackle?Actually, the offense had numbers on this play. He said the pulling guard was supposed to block the DE. That is the same pulling guard that blocked the LB. If the pulling guard blocks the DE instead, there is no one left to block the LB.I don't see a safety or an LB that doesn't have a blocker on them.So the two LBs and the safety walked down couldn't make the tackle?Actually, the offense had numbers on this play. Watch TA's response as he walks back. It's like...."WTH" to the center.
This play?Am I looking at the same video? I see no pulling guards. The left guard goes to the second level and chop blocks the MLB. That very possibly slows that LB up enough to not be able to make the play. The right guard blocks the DLman that is between the center and him and does a good job. The pulling lineman is the center that side steps the DE that ends up tackling the RB.
There are two safeties in the picture. The one that is farthest to the top of the picture gets blocked by the TE that lets the DE go. The other gets slowed by the same guard that blocks the LB. I don't think he gets to Newby before Newby makes a good gain.
The key to the failure on this play is the center side stepping the DE and not blocking him. That is the head scratcher and it appears that TA is questioning his actions too.
Aaahhhh. I've been talking about the other play Alex commented on above. This play?Am I looking at the same video? I see no pulling guards.
