1. Is the key to this riddle the nature of the task to be completed?

2. In other words, if we can figure out the task, should the answer be obvious?

3. Since the men weren't punished for the same reason, was the punishment for the "second" man in any way dependent on the acts or omissions of the "first" man?

4. Did completing the tasks somehow reveal some secret the King did not want known?

5. Did completing the tasks embarass the King?

6. Did completing the tasks reveal some information or knowledge to the men that the King did not want known?

7. While the tasks did not perhaps technically require stealing, did completion of the tasks result in someone revealing something that they should not have revealed?

8. Did the King suffer any kind of negative consequence due to the completion of the tasks?

3. Since the men weren't punished for the same reason, was the punishment for the "second" man in any way dependent on the acts or omissions of the "first" man? Oh Wait! I answered that question wrong!! YES they were punished for the same reason, my bad, cut and pasting is hard!!

The king tasked the men with determining whether the kingdom's gold was hidden and secure. They found the gold, and in revealing whether it was hidden and secure, revealed the location to the court or the way to get to the gold?
