Cursor froze

I have an ASUS laptop/notebook and yesterday my cursor locked up and I could not move it. The only way to navigate was tab and/or arrows. Tried restart, messed around with settings, etc. Finally I reset to factory settings to get it to work.

Does anybody have an easier fix if/when it happens again - or - what the hell did I do to freeze it in the first place

 
Uninstall and reinstall the mouse drivers should do it. Sound like a corruption somewhere. Can also try safe mode to see if it works there.
