D line and scheme

OK...over the last few years I have heard over and over again that Bo's defensive scheme works well when we have a dominating D line.

If recruiting holds up, we will end up with a DL of:

Clinkscales - #1 JUCO DT

Keels - #5 JUCO DE

Gregory - Last year's #1 JUCO DE and he lived up to that this year.

Valentine - We saw flashes of really good things this year

Curry - Has good potential

Collins - Has good potential

Maurice - Has good potential.

Williams - has good potential.

On top of that, we have young athletic LBs behind this line.

So....my question becomes, are we starting to get the talent that will bring us back to the 2009-2010 level?

Sure do hope so. Next year could be something special for our defense as long as secondary doesn't take to many steps back as well as offense.

That's true. But, there have been a lot of secondary units that have been made to look good because the QB doesn't have any time. It's much easier to cover a WR for 1-2 seconds than 6-9 seconds. Also, if the front 4 can stop the run most of the time by themselves, the staff can put more players in coverage.

This is true, but stopping the run has been our kryptonite for awhile so until we see a few games with this defense we should hold off comparing them to '09. That being said we should definitely celebrate the recruits we have coming in and the potential for greatness that could happen next year.

I would say better than 2010, but another season away from 2009. We will have better DE's than 2010 that's for sure.

2009-2010 we were elite across the board. We had Suh and Crick anchoring a solid unit on the line and 832 defensive backs to plug in wherever we wanted and pretty much all of them went to the NFL.

We need guys like Gerry and Rose and our young corners and safeties to take that next step towards greatness and put an entire unit out there.

These recent d line commits have me very excited. I wouldn't want to be the qb facing that d line. (Note, both of the recent JC dline guys have offers from Alabama, among others, and both appear to be very good at stopping the run).

I'd pencil Avery Moss in there someplace.

This intrigues me, are they pretty solid offers or is it just Sabben wanting to keep guys from other programs and each a schollie? How often has this happened before that we legitimately target a prospect that Bama wants as well? Obviously I don't follow recruiting that well, mostly just pay attention on signing day.

I'm liking these junior college players that we have been adding to our team. They bring a toughness mentality that immediately benefits the young players and the team as a whole. Trying to put together a list of past juco players recruited by Pelini

Randy Gregory, Lavonte David, Daimion Stafford (had ups and downs), Jamarcus Hardick, SJB, Dejon Gomes, and Brandon Kinnie...yeah, I like that list.

But to bring it back to the OP, if we can have even 3/4 out of Clinkscales and Keels as we have had from Gregory, our D-line is going to be a force to be reckoned with. It will help out our thin secondary. Hopefully we can go back to the days of being able to dictate the line of scrimmage and get constant pressure on the QB with only four players. THAT is what I miss most about the 09-10 defense. I don't know if we will ever have that elite of talent, but this looks like a step in the right direction.

You are very correct young man.
