I never heard the whole story on why he was never given a chance, to coach Nebraska. I know he wanted the job. Was it because our AD's didn't want to step on Creighton's toes. Was there bad blood between the schools. Was it a personality issue with someone on staff at nebraska. With all the sucsses he had with the Blue Jays, I would have thought it would be a no brainer.

Any way looks like he will turn Oregon in to to ten program soon, with all the money they have from the "swoosh".

I think our new coach will turn our program around soon enough, and glad we got him. He looks like a great fit. Just living out of state, don't get to hear somethings, that maybe some of you instaters and those with close ties to the program, get to hear.

I had heard that T.O. thinks a lot of him, that his wife really wanted back to Nebraska, and that his family (especially his Dad's health) was a big draw to come home.

BUT, in the end, that may not have been enough to take on the gigantic rebuilding job that was Husker Hoops. His friendship with Creighton's A.D. and others may have been awkward.

Plus, there is no way to compete with Phil Knight money. Especially for a lateral (at best) move.

My guess is, in the end, there was no official offer and that both sides were comfortable with that. jmho.

If I remember right, Dana was only one year into his job at Oregon when TO decided to pull the plug on Doc Sadler. There was probably a buyout in effect and it would have been awkward at best for Dana to leave after one year.

 

[HUSKER FREAK]

Nothing at all against Dana, because he is a good coach, but I really think that we got the best option in Miles with being able to turn the program around. Miles did a very good job coming in and winning the hearts of not only the majority of Nebraskans, but alot of the B1G itself. You can't have a good program without support. Support has to come first and keep on increasing. That, and Miles got the players to look night and day different from the begining of the season to the end of the season. That is all we could really ask for....well realistically anyways.
