Danny Woodhead

Walk-on
I'm posting this because i'm really tired of reading people's opinion on Woodhead who have never seen him play. This was a HUGE Frank Solich *uck up! If i remember right, Barry Sanders(who by the way was only offered as a DB by Tom Osborne, he wanted to be a Husker), wasn't very big either............Danny is no BS, but he follows his blocks so well its scary, he is just as fast side to side as he is straight forward. Anybody that doesn't think he could contribute to the NU program is just stuck on sour grapes. He is probably the best HS nebraska back since Ahman Green. He has one year left and if you get a chance to go and watch him play, you should. Danny will get a shot at the NFL, and he will stick in some compacity. BTW wasn't porkchop only 5'6?

One other thing, if he doesn't win the DII Heisman trophy tomarrow night, it is rigged!

I saw Woodhead play a couple times. He's a great player, and if he wanted to prove it at Nebraska, he should have walked on and earned a scholarship, like many others have. Evidently he wasn't sure either. IMO,He wasn't a D1 scholarship type player.

Hank, I don't think you understand, Solich was offering every one else in Nebraska a scholarship and Franky really screwed Danny over. Danny's brother was a WR at Chadron State and basically gave the finger to Franky Solich. And he's still giving the finger to Frank. Why walk on, when you have your education paid for some where else? Does that make sense to you?

Nope, many D1 level kids follow their dreams, and prove someone wrong by showing the doubters wrong. He wasn't seen as good enough to use a coveted scholarship on. Was he offered a greyshirt?Machovicka, Dad Steinkueler, and many others have manned up and gone the walkon route, but I'm glad he had an excellent career at (where did he play again)!

not sure who dad steinkuhler is, i think you mean dean...........but he played eight man ball and had no other financial offers. Woodhead could of walked on, but my point is that Franky was such an bad guy about the whole deal, he went were he felt very welcomed. Just another reason that Solich is licking nuts at Ohio University............Frank Solich's sh#t really does stink, believe it or not!

Just wondering. Did any D1 schools offer this guy a scholarship? I thought I read where nobody did. I could be wrong though.

I'm moving this to the More Sports as well.

ummmmmmmmm........he graduated in 2004......so that woulda ment he would've come in under Callahan.........wouldn't of mattered anyway he wouldnt play. With that said, Yes he is a good running back.

I think the anger towards Frankie is because Frankie had a lot of time to offer him and never did. True that was Callahan's class but if he had already excepted an offer from Frankie then Callahan would have kept him. Not that any of this matters.

The only film I've seen of him was when they lost to Northwest a couple weeks ago. I think Northwest completely shut him down running but I think he had a pretty good game catching the ball. So I couldn't say if he deserved a scholarship or not. He may make it in the NFL but with his size I don't see it as anything more then Special Teams.(Not saying that is bad) Just saying he will never be a RB in the NFL. I hope he gets a chance though.

I live around North Platte and got to see him play quite often. A few things strike me as odd about this thread. Woodhead is nowhere even in the same league as Porkchop. Woodhead is small not only in height, but also in weight and muscle development compared to porkchop. He's built like a DB without DB speed. He runs like a 4.47 40. This is not blazing speed by any means.

Didn't the same coversation come up in regards to Eddie Thompson from Cambridge that seemed to be all world at Omaha? Neither had the marbles to play at Nebraska. Each were very good at the caliber of schools and divisions they played, but come on they weren't D1 talent. If anyone even thinks Woodhead is the caliber of player as Barry Sanders, then God help them. The difference is like night and day. Give the kid credit where credit is due of being an excellent D2 player. I'm sure he'll get a chance in the 7th round or so in the draft to make a pro team as a special teams player.

Yea he's a terrible player, he only won the DIV II Heisman as a Junior and holds the single season rushing record in all of college football as well as in 2 games next season will own the career record. You really wanna know why he wasn't recruited to NU by Callahan? Because he's white. Period. How many white NFL running backs do you see on your tv screen playing sundays? None, it's a sterotype that came with Cally from the NFL. Is it wrong? Yes, but it's the way it is. Some will argue the point and say that black players are just better physically suited for running back and I might be inclined to agree with that. The problem is, because of this stereotype, even the individual white players that ARE in fact very good and could succeed at a high level aren't even affored the opportunity simply because of that mindset, and frankly that's just sad. I'm sure everyone said the same thing about Don Bebe who also played for Chadron State. Look what he did. Danny played in the all star game too and was tearing them up before he got hurt and they took him out to not risk any injury. This was against the same kids that went on to play DIV I ball by the way. But yea I know he's a loser with no talent, slow white boy with no size or ability but a decent lowly DIV II player...sure. Flame me if you want but it's the truth and anyone who has seen this special kid play knows it.

The difference between DII and D1 is a gap as wide as the atlantic ocean. Because a player can dominate at the DII level doesnt mean the plyaer could crack the 3 deep on a D1 team, especially one that is aiming for NFL looking players. The amount of active NFL players from outside D1 you can count on your fingures. I would be sceptical if he even gets a combine invite. There is a stigma attached to lower divisions.

Maybe woodhead could manage at D1, but maybe he couldnt either. It isnt a case of NU passing him by, it is a case of ALL of D1 and D-1AA passing on him.

Like I said before. He played in the all star game with all the "big kids" that are playing div 1 ball now and was tearing them up. Had he been given the opportunity, everyone would be singing to a new tune about ole danny.
