Stockholm - A Swedish man who donated his sperm to a lesbian couple must pay child support for the three boys he fathered, the Supreme Court has ruled.

The man, now 39, gave his sperm to the couple in the early 1990s. Three sons were born in the years 1992 to 1996.

He agreed he would play no role in the boys' upbringing, but signed a document saying he was the father. The women separated and the biological mother demanded that the man pay child support. The man went to the district and appeals courts, but lost. The Supreme Court upheld these rulings.

That just doesn't seem right.. guess it just proves you can't Trust anyone!!
Not surprising. There is a very strong preference in the law that:

1. No child be "bastardized"; and,

2. Every child be supported by the biological parent.

Legally, the only way to "sign away" your obligations to a child is to sever your parental rights - either by agreeing to have the kid adopted or by "giving" the kid to the state. What the guy should have done was require the "non-birth" partner to adopt the kid. May not have worked even then (since support laws speak of the mother and the biological father) but it would have been worth a shot.

Of course this happened in Sweden, I imagine their laws might be a little different. They're governmental programs tend to be more socialist, which is why it surprised me that the mother went after the biological father, she could have probably just as easily gotten money from the government.
