deangelo evans

Injuries derailed Deangelo's career. This year present, 2009, NU hasn't seen a more talented runner since Deangelo Evans-IMO. Deangelo Evans is now a sports agent. A very ironic twist to a superstar athlete. Very humbling.

Where are they now, D. Evans

I remember watching him in the Big 12 championship game and thinking to myself "This guy is going to be one heck of a back for us!" Too bad injuries and poor decisions derailed a once promising career.

DeAngelo was a competent back who played with a few great teams. I still shutter at the comparisons between him and Barry Sanders, they only reason they exist is because both players are relatively short, came out of Wichita and amassed massive high school numbers (DeAngelo at a Prep School, mind you).

They were not on the same page in terms of acceleration, and not on the same planet in terms of cutback ability or tackle-breaking ability. Unfortunately, DeAngelo was influenced by much of the early hype, which led him to believe that he was a bigger entity than the team (this came to head during a locker room confrontation with Joel Makovicka during the 1998 Oklahoma State game at Arrowhead). When it came down to it, after DeAngelo quit, a vote was taken, and only about four people raised their hands in favor of his return.

I wish him the best in his endeavors, and have heard recent interviews with him in which he talks about his situation at Nebraska and regrets certain moves he made. But by no means is he a significantly better option than the players we had in his place, and I think we were a better team in 1999 without him.
