During the four years I went to OSU, we had 5 wins in total. That was before Riley. The fan who wrote the letter is obviously a younger fan who has no idea of OSU's football history. Riley turned it around and got close to 2 Rose Bowl appearances. That's a big deal for a school with a terrible history in football.

Thinking DONU has 10 win talent is delusional. The D is devoid of any talent except for the a few. Even our All World Safety can't tackle very well. On O, the line is terrible as are the backs. Newby goes down easier than a 2 dollar hooker.

Considering they won 9 games last year with many of the same guys it really isn't even close to being delusional.

Who do we have that is equivalent to Ameer?

So what you are saying is we are still good, because we replaced 4 MAJOR contributors with players that were already on the team last year? Ok, if you want to play that game. Who takes those guy's place then?

You can't take 22-4 and have it still equal 22 (no matter how hard you wish it to be true)

Do you feel the loss of 2 players constitutes a rebuilding year????

It doesn't matter that we don't have the equivalent of a Randy Gregory at DE ready to fill his shoes this year because first off what team is going to re load like that? I listed Maliek Collins simply because you're implying that by losing Randy Gregory who else do we have left this year that is just as good? You're not going to have a guy step in a be 'as good' as Randy was at DE last year unless you catch lightening in a bottle. Were you really expecting that?

There are enough players from last years team that won 9 games to warrant having a far, far better record than this years 3-6 record but it's painfully obvious from your posts that this is the fact that you simply cannot and do not want to come to terms with......

It is so convenient for the Riley and Eichorst haters to just throw aside the fact that the talent as it exists right now on this team is not very good.

You keep saying that but I hate to be the one to break it to you brah but talent isn't the issue here. So you're just going to ignore the play calling? The personnel choices at running back and offensive line? The scheme? (Ex: Throwing almost 50 times with a hugely inexperienced QB against a Purdue team that has the #100th ranked rushing defense in the country...) No one can forget the simple clock management screw up that cost us the game at Illinois. Do you remember that? Heh. Of course you don't....

I'm sorry but all of those examples have zero to do with talent and everything to do with the coaches but you can keep blaming the players all you want since that's what's most convenient for the Riliever at this point which it's pretty obvious that's exactly what you are. The good thing is you'll probably only get to do that for another season or two because either Riley will retire or him and his staff along with Eichorst will just get the axe whichever comes first.

Maybe you could try to save their jobs after next year though by sending the new AD an e mail to let them know that 'hey man...it's the talent..."

As for the "who cares if he's" -- what, professional? A guy who has his priorities straight? A guy we should be happy (at least from an off-field standpoint) is in charge of the student-athletes at UNL? ... disappointing opinions

Nebraska class is a huge source of pride for me. I have only very tangential ties to the university or the state, but that feeling that it's a special place with special people is why it is always my favorite program to follow.

Riley does not have a monopoly on professionalism, just as Bo did not have a monopoly on winning at least 9 games a year.

This masterful team that won 9 games last year would have directly only one 7 games without those two players, possibly only 6. If we were 6-7 last year, would 3-6 this year be unexpected?

So, yes this team with all of the dysfunction left by the previous staff, the change in schemes, the loss of 4-5 playmakers and no one to replace them, is not going to be very good.

It is so convenient for the Riley and Eichorst haters to just throw aside the fact that the talent as it exists right now on this team is not very good. The 247 composite rankings for the starters for the Purdue game was actually less than that of Purdue. That is including Newby and DPE whom were gone after the first qtr.

The facts do not lie, Nebraska is at the talent level TODAY of Purdue. But go ahead and keep wishing and hoping that Nebraska will win games just because they are Nebraska and kids will pee their pants when they show up.

They beat Purdue without AA last year...maybe without KB and RG too

They'd be the same guys if Ameer, Kenny Bell, Josh Mitchell, and Randy Gregory was on the team. They're not and all four of those players had a massive impact and won games single handidly keeping Nebraska from a 6-6 record last year.

I'm not saying we have the talent of a 3-5 team by any means, but a cakewalk to 9 wins this season was not ever going to be. Illinois is a better team than last year, Miami is arguably the same or better, BYU is a better opponent than Macneese State or whoever, Southern Miss is much improved this year, Wisconsin is about on par, Minnesota is slightly down, Iowa is significantly better, MSU is still elite, Northwestern is notably better, Purdue is, believe it or not, quite a bit better than last year as well.

You can twist that any way you want. 3-6 is still 3-6 at the end of the day. And if you want to say Purdue is better because they beat a terrible Nebraska team, then good for you.

Also Wisconsin was far better last year. No Gordon, and no Clement when they played us last...

I think it is unrealistic to expect the AD to fire Riley after one season. Eichorst would have to be fired first.

I do not believe if Riley were to be fired after one year that it would paint the Husker program as toxic or keep really good coaches at bay. A really good coach demands a compensation package in the $5 mill range. We would have to decide if we want to spend that kind of money. If we did, we could find a coach, regardless of how long M R lasts.

On a closing note, the Miami Hurricanes just fired their coach.. Golden.. He was an Eichorst hire I think

No he wasn't SE inherited him. I am with Mr. Chamberlain NU has top 30 talent right now. Injuries have hurt no doubt, but that doesn't excuse losses to Purdue and Illinois.

NW is 6-2 with wins over Stanford and Duke. S. Miss is actually 6-3 right now I think and could win out. Plus we still have to play Iowa and MSU. Coming into the season the schedule looked fairly easy, but NU has played some good teams so far. Not a extremely tough schedule but better than a lot of teams. This schedule is tougher than last years by far.

Generally good teams can atleast break the top 50 in total offense. Except none of our opponents can, save for Southern Miss.

Put it another way, if these are all such good teams, where are their good victories? Northwestern has some good wins, but they're balanced by some greatly lopsided losses (and all you need to do is put the tape on to see that is not a good football team). Neither BYU nor Wisconsin has a win against a current top 25 team. Iowa currently doesn't, though Pitt and/or Wisconsin could slide into the rankings.

How then can you have a schedule of good teams if they're not ranked, they don't beat ranked teams, and all of them have weak offenses? I'm truly baffled how anyone can say this is a schedule of good teams with any kind of honesty.
