Hunter, as usual, you are spot on.Easy, easy. The sky isn't falling. Wait at least until signing day to enter panic mode. We don't have that many fewer recruits than we did last year at this time, and that class turned out solid. It'll be alright.Compared to the elite programs in the country, this recruiting class is pitiful. They have got to do a better job w/ recruiting, somehow, some way.
really, looking at some of the other good programs, we are in denial when it comes to recruiting and our accomplishments at this point in the process. i am not saying Pelini and his guys aren't good at recruiting, but this is a damn tough place to recruit. other than the coaching and game day atmosphere, we fall short in everything else that is attractive to today's recruits.....
For this reason, NU will never return to national prominence --- unless they can win, and win in big games, with inferior athletes. What I mean is this --- if Pelini can get his 2nd tier/3rd tier athletes to beat, semi-consistently, the Oklahoma's and Texa's, the Texas Tech's of the world --- then, and only then, will recruits overlook the recruiting disadvantages of Lincoln and only then will we land some top talent. If, as is expected, Pelini cannot get his troops to over achieve and beat teams that they have no right in beating (VTech, Texas, Oklahoma, Texas tech and others like this over the next few years) then expect that NU will not be able to attract major recruits with consistency and that NU will be forever consigned to a tier 2/tier three status as a program.
It is a tough reality. But the fact remains --- NU will have to win with much lesser athletes than their top competition before we will get a consistent flow of top athletes. It is that simple. Over achieve now in order to not need to over achieve later. If not.... NU remains out of the top 25 programs nationally... for the foreseeable future.
