Once we recruit some cornerbacks that dont qualify as smurfs, then could Cosgrove develop a scheme that might stop someone on third down? Or first or second for that matter?

I mean no disrespect to our DB's. I think that they try, but if they can't match up physically then they damn well ought to be taught to tackle someone!!

Opinions? Thoughts? Comments?

 
Deion Sanders made a lot of money as a DB, and I remember him being a horrible shoe string tackler. I get what you're saying, but there's a lot of capable DB's out there that are under 6' tall. Coz was handed the Bullocks twins who would both be starting in the NFL this year if one hadn't blown out a knee, and he was handed a DB who I believe set the 40 record or something like that at the NFL combine. He didn't light the world on fire with them, so I guess I would say no he couldn't develop a scheme that might stop anyone.

 
Yea I have a comment. Height is over rated. Sure Grixby is a little on the small side but there are PLENTY of good corners that are six foot or under.

You might want to think about your comment more because the smallest corner we have is the one that is playing the best (Grixby). Athletic ability at corner I feel is better than having a 6'4" guy who can't control his body.

 
Well first of all the average height for a corner in the nfl is around 5'10 or 5'11 and if that isnt good enough for you and you still want taller corners, we have Bowman who is 6'2, Jones who is 6' and Murillo who is 6' so I dont think height for dbs is as big of a problem is heart and desire. We have the athletes on our team it just isnt being utilized in the best way possible.

 
Looking at the current NU roster for CB's...

Amukamara - 6'1"

Blue - 5'10"

Bowman - 6'2"

Ford - 5'11"

Grixby - 5'9"

Jones - 6'0"

Kester - 6'1"

Murillo - 6'0"

Sullivan - 5'10"

West - 6'0"

So by my count, that's 6 out of 10 corners who are 6' or taller. Both of the DB recruits I see on rivals are 6' or taller.

I guess I don't see what you're saying with regarding lots of smurfs running around.
