Defensive game plan becoming obvious

BLITZ......but please stop sending Ruud. He is so timid, always shying away from contact. Not only do I think Octavian should be in more, not always because I think Ruud plays a real good pass D, but Brandenburgh needs to play more and slowly, he is.

For the most part, our d played pretty well. We started the game out really well- too bad we gave them all those free yards on the first kickoff return. For awhile tho, it seemed like we weren't getting anything done on d-- letting McCoy sit back and attempt to pick us apart. We turned it on towards the end. If not for our big d stand after our TD to take the lead, we wouldn't even have the ball for Nunn to fumble.

Defensive game plan becoming obvious is the perfect title for a thread like this...

Husker fans...where is the pressure on the QB? where is adam carriker period??? Is it just me or our blitz plays very predictable and ineffective? Very strange going from leading the nation in sacks last year and this year finding it hard to put pressure on the qb. I don't doubt us a bit though...I know we are capable. Played Texas very tight and didn't let them score too many points.

I think the lack of depth in the secondary has a big part in this. also we have had some injuries at linebacker, but we are no where near where I thought we would be as far as rushing the QB.

I am hopefull that we can start getting it together in that aspect of he game.

I think the blitzing scheme was somewhat effective in the second half. They were blitzing almost every down and were hurrying the QB. They did become predictable at times and with slow penetration, McCoy scrambles for some easy 1st downs.

Send 8 in the box, then drop in coverage. Bring a corner in and have him drop into coverage. Move around the interior line, then just battle with the o-line.

Good thing is Cosgrove had that shuffle pass dominated when they tried to run it!!! Looks like they still had a little KSU gameplan in their bag of tricks.

:sarcasm

Ruud actually had a pretty good game. According to LJS:

He had eight tackles (seven solos), including two that went for losses. He forced a fumble. He broke up a pass. He had a sack.

I agree though. Octavien had an awesome game!! He was flying all over that field

Agree...............100%.

I don't see why we don't try to hide our blitzs a little more. It seems like Rudd is always up at the line in his gap to blitz about two seconds before the snap. Keep him back and let him build up some speed. Also, show blitz sometimes but don't actually come, let the lineman try to match up one on one and that will help Carriker, Moore, and Turner off the edge.

I think that blitzing 8 and drop in coverage would be great if they weren't running with three receivers that had a definate size advantage over our corners... i think in theory its a great idea..but we don't have the secondary todo something like that yet. I think if we do we pull grixby and get thenarse or somebody with some height that can keep up with guys. BLITZING 8 and leaving wide open receivers will get us smoked for 6

I didn't mean to send 8. Of course we'd get smoked. My point was that they kept giving looks like we were sending the dogs and hardly ever did. Hell, if we sent Octavien, we'd drop Carriker in coverage. We never had a strong pass rush all game.

We got in there a few times.

I am surprised they didn't blitz on UT's final drive. It had been working the last few drives before that, but they sat back and didn't do anything. But Octavien played great. Hopefully he can keep this up and show why we were so high on him before the season.

I loved the double CB blitz. I'm sure nobody around here expected that. I also loved when tehy would bring McKeon to teh line to take on a guard to free up Octavien or Ruud. We did end up with 3 sacks so it's not like we never got to McCoy. Everybody talks about how bad our O-Line played yet we only gave up 1 more sack. Taylor and McCoy both took a pounding today. Crap on the TD pass to Sweed Octavien leveled McCoy.
